The effective use of water resources for a greener world
▶Summary
School Lycée Arago de Perpignan (France) In line with the objectives of the Academic Project described below: Axis 1: to reinforce the mastery of English and the discovery of other cultures. Axis 2: to strengthen and share a scientific culture on the theme of water. Priority 4: Develop a civic awareness of sustainable development. 5: develop teamwork in research, further study and transmission. Responds to several objectives of the school's project (in relation with the axes of the Academic Project): Communication : - Publicising the school Guidance : - Successful career guidance - Developing pupils' knowledge of further education at the lycée Culture: - Reinforce the mastery of modern languages and the discovery of other cultures - Discover and share a universal scientific culture - Develop each student's awareness of citizenship - Develop a positive school climate
▶Objectives
1. Raise students' awareness of the central issue of water: preservation, responsible consumption and sustainable management. 2. To promote experimental science through an investigative approach in the field. 3. To strengthen students' command of the English language. 4. To encourage intercultural exchanges and promote European values. 5. Reinforce certain cross-disciplinary skills: open-mindedness, autonomy, collaborative research, in-depth study and transmission of information on education for international sustainable development.
▶Activities
Workshop open 1 hour/week for 2 school years, to the same pupils, supervised/animated by the weekly contributions of 2 science and technology teachers and an outside speaker from the Association Espoir/Hope 2000 (twinning agreement with the Lycée Arago). Analysis of documents, computer research, group work in oral/written English, pooling and oral debates in English. Other slots: 2 Participatory Plastic Science operations at La Loupe (Tara Océan), sampling in the field, analysis of scientific results (graphs, statistics, diagrams, etc. impacts on the environment and health + sustainable solutions). Lectures and videoconferences in English or French, meetings with scientists: Plankton; Reuse of waste water; Scientific journalistic investigation; Water resources and biodiversity on the planet; .... Operation Graines de Reporters scientifiques (Tara Océan and CLEMI). Production and study of "hair socks", an experimental device for purifying water by capturing hydrocarbons. Sporting and cultural activities and water-related visits. With partners: videoconference cycles, hosting, travel (conferences, local outings).
▶Impact
Participatory science: Plastique à la loupe (PAL) project: field sampling of micro plastics, meso plastics and macro waste, contribution to the collection of field data, carried out on an international scale, then analysed and published by scientists. Graines de Reporters Scientifiques (Seeds of Science Reporters) project: the underside of the ocean - online student video: "How can plankton be a source of energy for tomorrow? With the SVT Inspectorate of the Montpellier education authority: contribution to the construction of educational data in connection with the exploration of an issue around the theme of "Oceans and climate". Twinspace aimed at bringing together, pooling and showcasing the pupils' work and the various activities carried out by the 3 partner teams, Spanish, Turkish and French, during the 3 face-to-face meetings, the 2 virtual meetings, and at the same time in each school, throughout the duration of the project - a space that is still being developed. Contributing to the positive impetus of commitment to sustainable development: obtaining the E3D Label for the Lycée Arago's commitment to sustainable development (2023).
