Migrants Integration into the Labour Market and Ecological Transition

The MILMET project was born from two main observations: On the one hand, that, in many European countries, migrants and refugees are facing many obstacles (cultural difference, language barrier, discrimination, non recognition of third countries diplomas, mobility, etc.) that hamper their integration into the labour market. On the other hand, that the current climate and environmental issues means that companies need to change their production methods and turn towards a local, social and solidarity-based economy. This change will create new job opportunities. As a result of these observations, the consortium wanted to gather our expertise and competencies and set up MILMET with the ambition to address the needs for migrants and refugees to find employment in those green enterprises who are looking to find qualified manpower. More specifically, we set out to meet the needs for new training methods and tools for those organizations who support migrant's education and integration in European host countries.

The project aimed to develop a methodology of training courses that would take into account the needs of the migrants : being financially autonomous, increasing language practice while working, feeling useful into host societies, breaking isolation, using their vocational skills, etc. It also aimed to create new tools addressed to trainers, educators, professors and organisations who work with migrants and refugees. Moreover, the consortium expected to find a better way to detect migrants vocational skills and to gather green enterprises, social organizations and migrants. The key objectives of the consortium were to: 1) Integrate migrants and refugees more efficiently into the labour market ; 2) Identify and make use of migrants vocational skills, in particular those that are needed in green entreprises ; 3) Connect green enterprises and migrants ; 4) Involve green enterprises and migrants into the project activities ; 5) Raise awareness on migrants’ integration issues among enterprises and authorities.

Setting up a Consortium with 5 partners in 5 countries. Organisation of transnational meetings, 6 meetings in 5 countries. Exchanging good practices in terms of language training of migrants oriented towards the ecological sector. Exchanging of experiences on the migratory context in each country, of the work done to support migrants in each region (by Partner organisations and by other local partners). Exchanging experience of the green sector in each country and of the work done to support the ecological transition (by Partner organisations and by other local partners). Conduction of a Needs analysis targeting migrant learners, NGOs working with migrants as well as green entreprises, aiming to shape the Toolkit's content according to the needs of the project’s target groups, identifying key areas of focus and resource types. Development of a practical Handbook (IO1). Translation of Handbook and Teaching material in 6 languages (5 project languages and English) Testing of the teaching material with migrant groups in 5 countries. Exchange of practical tools and teaching material for language training with migrants, oriented towards the ecological transition. Development of a Toolkit for trainers and language teachers working with migrant populations. Dissemination of the project Deliverables. Evaluation of TPMs, evaluation of pedagogical sessions (testing phase), final evaluation of the project.

A consortium of 5 partner organisations in 5 countries. A Needs analysis. A Handbook in 6 languages containing: 1) Information on the migration context in the five project countries; 2) Information on the five sustainable sectors targeted by the project; 3) Teaching methodologies: guidelines for language training for migrants, oriented towards the green sector and ecological transition; 4) Teaching unit structures and unit contents to be used by teachers/trainers (2-3 units per country/language with corresponding worksheets) in 6 languages.
