Summary

We applied for this project to address a critical need identified among social practitioners. These professionals play a vital role in supporting vulnerable individuals, including children, adults, and the elderly, often facing complex and demanding situations. However, their work is increasingly burdened by administrative tasks, challenging clients, staff shortages, and insufficient supervision, leading to higher levels of stress and burnout, far beyond those in similar fields. Burnout, characterized by emotional exhaustion and a decrease in self-esteem, not only affects these professionals but also the quality of their services. In this context, the 4LessBurnout project was developed to provide tools for assessing stress and burnout, alongside tailored resources to help practitioners better manage and reduce workplace stress

Objectives

Through the implementation of the 4LessBurnout project, our main objective was to encourage professionals to seek help when they feel overwhelmed by their work. We aimed to raise awareness among these practitioners about the effects of stress and burnout syndrome on their lives and work, enabling them to better understand these challenges. By enhancing their capacity to manage stress and navigate burnout contexts, we sought to foster mutual support among colleagues during intervention processes. Additionally, we aimed to improve the relationships between beneficiaries and social practitioners, which is essential for creating an environment of trust and collaboration. Ultimately, our ambition was to increase the quality of social services provided by enabling professionals to work in healthier and more supportive conditions, benefiting both the practitioners and the vulnerable populations they serve.

Activities

As part of the 4LessBurnout project, several essential activities were implemented to address the challenges of burnout among social professionals. For PR1: Mapping the current situation regarding burnout among social professionals, we carried out: - Initial research on similar tools. - Focus groups in each country with professionals to identify specific stressors to assess. - The development and testing of a self-assessment tool measuring both the level of burnout and stress factors. Regarding PR2: Building professionals’ capacity to cope with burnout through interactive training, we: - Developed a blended learning course, integrating 6 modules. - Conducted a pilot test (in 2 phases) with over 30 participants in each country to ensure its effectiveness. - Produced multimedia content hosted on an LMS platform and on the project website to enhance the learning experience. For PR3: A self-care and resilience toolkit, we created: - Practical content on how to use the assessment tool and strategies for stress management. Additionally, validation workshops were organized separately for each result, gathering specific feedback to adjust the produced resources.
