Objectifs 2030 Comment respecter les objectifs de 2030 fixés la commission Européenne en matière de développement durable ?
▶Summary
We wanted to raise awareness among a large number of people about climate change, its causes and effects, and above all to find and implement solutions for local actions within secondary schools. This issue is generally addressed in many courses and in all countries, but on an ad hoc basis. We needed the time and resources to study it in a more comprehensive and continuous way. But we also needed to make it easier to raise public awareness with specific, local datas and to show that the problem is international with local consequences.
▶Objectives
Our objectives were : - Establish a reliable carbon footprint for each school. - Raise awareness among management, teachers and, more generally, all the adults in the schools involved. - Raise awareness among the pupils taking part in the project and other pupils in the schools. - Finding solutions for local action. - Study the solutions implemented in different countries and see if they can be exported. - Reduce the impact of our exchanges by using environmentally friendly means of transport. - Increase students' knowledge of Europe, partner countries, etc. - To help students progress in foreign languages, including English.
▶Activities
Overall project: to establish a complete carbon footprint for each of our 4 schools, after collecting data on energy, transport, food and buildings. During the international exchanges, we organised visits to companies or sites related to the theme of carbon. We organised school activities to give students a better understanding of what a carbon footprint is and how to carry it out. We also visited cultural sites. During each exchange, we organised a day dedicated to sport to give the students an appreciation of outdoor and low-carbon leisure activities. Students recorded videos and podcasts to raise awareness of energy saving. The students produced posters on the carbon footprints of each secondary school, the mechanisms involved in global warming and the consequences of global warming for the country concerned. These posters were displayed in the schools taking part in the project.
▶Impact
A website (www.meet4t.com) went online very quickly and is updated regularly. Many people (students, teachers and management staff) have been trained in sustainable development issues. Awareness-raising videos and podcasts have been produced by students and put online. Posters presenting our carbon footprints and solutions for reducing them have been printed in very large format. Exhibitions of these posters are being held in the schools involved. Trees have been planted in various secondary schools. An eco-mobility week was organised for a school's volunteer staff, who were able to borrow electric bikes to encourage them to use this mode of transport. Recycling and waste sorting bins were installed throughout the school. The class reps have been trained in the correct use of the sorting bins. Students have introduced car pooling at their school.
