UPTOOL: Using Profiles To Optimize Online Learning
โถSummary
The transfer of training methods to digital technology has greatly increased in recent years, accentuated by the Covid period and the widespread use of telecommuting, leading many trainers and edu...
โถObjectives
Our aim in implementing the project was based on several stages: - offer several teaching methods in a single curriculum, adapted to the target students' curricula - design and produce this content using the 3 teaching methods selected (text-based, video-based and gamified) - enable a large and significant number of students in different computer environments to consult these modules - set up an anonymized Learning Analytics system to collect and centralize usage and consultation statistics, which we could study with a view to the profile and declared preferences of the students, as well as the impact of the training measured through upstream and downstream tests. - analyze these statistics and see what conclusions we can draw. - draw on these conclusions to create a best-practice training course for trainers.
โถActivities
To achieve these objectives, we carried out the following activities: - analysis of current knowledge on digital learning, to gain an initial overview of the best practices to be promoted - an analysis of the partners' needs, to define the right training topic that would be useful for their students and, more generally, could be offered to a wide range of people. We chose the following three topics: digital literacy, media literacy and basic mathematics. - the design of a methodology to obtain relevant information to study the impact of modalities according to profile. - definition of the statistics that are useful and feasible to measure in a classic digital training environment - the modules must respect the practices of classic training modules distributed on LMSs - IT research and development to carry out the statistical measurements, set up the LRS to collect the statistics, and an export system for analysis. - design of modules in the 3 pedagogical modes (text, video, gamified), production and translation into 3 languages - making the modules available to partners, and integrating them into students' curricula
โถImpact
All the activities carried out in this way enabled us to achieve several concrete results: - we have produced 3 modules * 3 teaching methods * 3 languages, on important acculturation topics (digital acculturation, media acculturation, basic mathematical concepts for everyday life)*. These modules are accessible to all - we have tested and implemented a system that enables us to obtain numerous module usage statistics, while respecting the standards and constraints of classic digital training environments (LMS) - we were able to reach over 2,000 students who consulted at least one theme in its entirety - we were able to obtain hundreds of lines of highly varied statistical data - we were able to analyze these data, and produce a training module for trainers on the best practices to take into account according to profile
