Fresh Trend in Forestry Training
▶Summary
The Centre Forestier and project partners applied to address the need to enhance VET trainers' skills and integrate new pedagogical approaches for better results and satisfaction among trainers an...
▶Objectives
By implementing the 2ForT project, the partners aimed to: • Improve forestry trainers skills in Europe through learner-centric approaches tested and validated for a VET target group. • Enhance all VET training in Europe, as the learner-centric methods and tools developed in the project are transferable to all VET learners. • Raise awareness among a new segment of the European population about sustainable, climate-friendly forestry and forestry work. At mid-term, the main expected impacts were: 1. Higher quality forestry professionals who are more passionate, efficient, and work safely, thanks to impactful training. This would lead to better alignment with forestry sector needs, fewer accidents, and greater recognition of forestry workers due to respect for sustainable forestry and the ability to explain it. 2. Higher quality professionals from VET education, meeting sector demands. 3. Greater understanding of forestry and forestry work across Europe.
▶Activities
In 3 years, thanks to constant exchanges between them, the 5 participating organisations have achieved : • A list of methods and tools to integrate learner-centric approaches into VET training, tested and approved. • A practical guide videos explaining how to implement these approaches. • An online course for VET trainers on learner-centric approaches, based on the list and videos created earlier. • A training session curriculum on sustainable, climate-friendly forestry and forestry work, designed for VET learners from various sectors and a broader non-forestry audience, using the methods and tools developed during the project, and adaptable for any trainer to deliver. The creation of these outputs results was supported by 5 transnational meetings and 2 five-day LTTA for trainers from participating organisations, where they contributed to the outputs while training and learning from each other. The results were disseminated through continuous communication activities and 2 multiplier events per partner: one focused on the online course and the other on the curriculum for sustainable forestry training.
▶Impact
The project partners achieved the following results: • 12 best practice sheets, known as 'The Bricks,' each presenting an innovative and dynamic approach to help VET trainers enhance their course pedagogy. These sheets were developed based on a thorough review of existing literature, both to define the methodology—already outlined in the project proposal—and to guide the drafting process. • 21 videos, each linked to one of the Bricks, providing concrete and illustrated examples to support the concepts developed. (IO2) • An interactive online course created on the Genially platform, applying the knowledge gained from previous activities through a gamified approach. Additionally, the content from IO3 has been structured into PDF sheets, ensuring easy and rapid implementation on other platforms.. (IO3) • A VET training course curriculum on sustainable and climate friendly forestry work, composed of 3 modules, lasting 2 to 3 hours in total. This course targets VET learners in the forestry sector but is also suitable for anyone with limited knowledge of these issues needing training on sustainable forestry practices. (IO4) • An open public website gathering all the results of the project.
