EmpowHERment LAB
โถSummary
We initiated the EmpowHERment LAB project to address the widening digital skills gap highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The project was particularly designed to empower women who lacked formal qualifications, offering them a pathway to improve and enhance their digital skills through a structured European-scale adult education programme. Our aim was to dismantle the barriers these women faced when engaging with digital tasks, enabling them to reinvent their personal and professional lives and thrive in the digital economy. Additionally, the project targeted educators within the adult education sector, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate and adapt to the ongoing digital transformation effectively. Through EmpowHERment LAB, we introduced innovative teaching methodologies and developed inclusive educational content that remains accessible and inclusive. This has not only enhanced the operational capacity of our partners but also enriched the learning experiences of the educators and women involved. By fostering an inclusive digital culture, we remain committed to building a more digitally competent and empowered society that will face future challenges more robustly.
โถObjectives
The EmpowHERment LAB project presents a tool for partners to improve the quality of their work and their operational capacity by measuring themselves in an international environment, which would allow them to cooperate for the creation and exchange of new methods and approaches, according to the priorities and needs of the target groups. The objectives of the EmpowHERment LAB project were: -To promote the motivation and development of new interests in women at risk of social exclusion through the use of new technologies; -To facilitate new educational tools and methodologies to educators and adult education centres so that they could update their academic programming; -To foster the active participation of these target groups in the construction of skills, knowledge and competencies; -To promote a conscious and correct use of new technologies to develop new ways of learning and organising knowledge; -To break down cultural barriers and improve the sensitivity of women towards this sector; -To provide adult training centres with a gender perspective that would allow them to rethink their training approach and seek opportunities for a more egalitarian sector.
โถActivities
The consortia agreed to carry out training paths adapted to the real needs of women who wanted to start or work in the ICT sector. Thus, we aimed to bring women closer to the ICT sector by creating a Bootcamp where we included tools for the creation of a website with WordPress, inbound marketing, cybersecurity, empowerment, copywriting, digital publishing and creativity techniques to create the future webcoach and ICT entrepreneur. In addition, we wanted to create a Methodological Manual for women entrepreneurs in ICT, aimed at trainers and educators so that they could get the tools and methodologies to encourage the participation of women in the digital industry. As part of the EmpowHERment LAB project, we created 6 in-person European Hubs throughout partner countries where women could meet face-to-face with digital tools and learn how to use them thanks to the use of non-formal education methodologies. In the Hubs, we organised acceleration programmes so that, once the necessary knowledge was acquired, the target groups could carry out their business project ideas and turn them into reality.
โถImpact
The project delivered two significant concrete results: the Bootcamp (IO1) and the Methodological Manual (IO2). The Bootcamp was designed as an intensive training program, focusing on Empowerment and Social Entrepreneurship, Personal Branding, SEO/SEM, Content and Online Marketing. The primary aim was to equip women, especially those over fifty or with limited prior employment opportunities, with the necessary tools to thrive in the digital economy. The Methodological Guide is organized into 6 chapters, each addressing one aspect of digital education. "Women in Tech & Entrepreneurship", "Non-Formal Educational Tools and Methodologies", "Supporting Diverse Learning Groups to Learn and Grow", "Inclusive and Sustainable Education: Embracing Low-Tech and No-Tech Solutions", "Statistical Data & Analysis". Lastly, "Building a Bootcamp: A Comprehensive Look at Methodologies and Challenges Faced" offers practical guidance for creating effective, immersive learning experiences in bootcamp settings. Together, these chapters provide a rounded perspective on critical themes in digital education, emphasizing inclusivity and empowerment.
