▶Summary
Dyslexia affects 9-12% of the population, according to the European Dyslexia Association, and poses significant challenges in reading, spelling, and writing. A major area of difficulty is learning foreign languages through traditional methods, which are integral to European curricula and essential for workplace success. Deutsch.info+ aimed to address the gap in teaching methods and materials suitable for dyslexic learners in foreign language education, specifically focusing on German. Despite the importance of multilingual skills, there is a notable lack of effective resources for teaching foreign languages to dyslexic students, especially in languages other than English. By developing innovative teaching methods and resources tailored for dyslexic students, we aimed to equip educators with the tools and knowledge needed to support these learners effectively. The project targeted both the immediate educational needs of dyslexic students and the professional development of German language teachers, providing accessible, practical information and materials to enhance teaching practices and improve learning outcomes for dyslexic students.
▶Objectives
The primary objective of the deutsch.info+ project was to enhance the educational experience and outcomes for students with dyslexia learning German as a foreign language. The aim was to provide German language teachers with specialized materials for their professional development through an online course, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to effectively support dyslexic learners. Additionally, we sought to create and disseminate ready-to-use teaching materials tailored to dyslexic students, ensuring these resources are practical and accessible for classroom use. The project also focused on developing online materials for individual use by dyslexic children, allowing personalized learning experiences. By raising teachers' awareness of the challenges faced by dyslexic students and providing effective strategies and tools, we aimed to foster a more inclusive learning environment. Ultimately, we sought to boost the confidence and language learning success of dyslexic students, empowering them to overcome difficulties and achieve academic success. Through a cross-professional approach, we aimed to create a lasting impact on educational practices and outcomes for dyslexic learners.
