▶Objectives
We wanted to create a platform where students and teachers could share knowledge about environmental sustainability and climate change, hence the focus on using geospatial information to teach students about natural phenomena. We also wanted to enable teachers and students with a tool to enchance their digital skills, enabling them to follow the fast paced development of digital transformation. We set out with several objectives: 1. Create an interactive tool for online learning. 2. Giving students a tool where they could participate in knowledge creation, focusing on enviornmental teaching. 3. Build understanding about humanity‘s shared responsibility for the Earth‘s protection. 4. Develop content that would encourage and foster new methods of teaching and learning. 5. Promote creative and critical thinking skills. 6. Support the development of blended and online learning. 7. Encourage outdoor education.
▶Activities
In order to achieve our objectives, we set out with four outputs to be created: - The first was a didactic concept, outlining the objectives and pedagogy of the tools created. The didactic concept is available on the website and can help teachers familiarize themselves with the objectives of the project and how it can be used in their own teaching. - The second was an online platform, a website where students and teachers can find information about the project and where teachers can create routes for students to follow. - The third output is the ELF mobile application that students and teachers can use to follow routes that have been created, focusing on environmental and geospatial learning. - The last output was content development for the application as well as a course for both students and teachers on how to make use of the app to create outdoor activities using geospatial information.
▶Impact
The concrete outputs of the project were several. The first one was a project website where users can access information about the project, download the ELF mobile application and the didactic concept. We also created the ELF mobile application for Android smart phones. The application allows teachers to create routes in their surroundings, introducing points of interests, games and quizzes. The application provides to possibility for students to create their own routs and materials, and having them uploaded to the app with help from their teachers. The third output is the didactic concept, explaining the educational value of the project. We have also developed teachering material and course for users, teaching them how to create routes and use the mobile application. Additionally, we have created promotional materials such as a brochure on the project and it's aims and a newspaper article about the project.
