Green Innovation in the Fashion industry management
โถSummary
The textile industry has long been a growing sector, yet it is also one of the most polluting. Approximately 5-10% of global CO2 emissions are attributed to it. Recently, spurred by initiatives li...
โถObjectives
The EU Green Deal is a comprehensive plan aimed at transforming various sectors to achieve environmental sustainability. Implementation requires active involvement from citizens and stakeholders to increase knowledge and awareness. The project focused on impacting SMEs in the fashion/textile sector, known for its significant environmental footprint. Specific objectives include developing and testing the GIF Competence Framework through participatory approaches. This involves activities such as desk research, surveys, interviews, and co-design workshops. The project aims to facilitate the adoption of the framework by creating training kits, user guides, and use cases for course design and curriculum development. Additionally, maximizing the reach and impact of the framework involves strategic dissemination to different stakeholders through existing networks, dedicated dissemination activities, and multiplier events. The project indeed emphasizes the importance of co-creating training programs and contents with educators and industry experts to ensure relevance and effectiveness.
โถActivities
The GIF project's main activities, delineated across two key Work Packages, focused on designing and developing the Competence Framework (WP1) and crafting, testing, and refining the training kit (WP2). These activities encompassed several phases: - Consortium-led desk research analyzing existing Competence Frameworks related to the Green Deal and environmental protection, along with those specific to the fashion sector. - Comprehensive review of international reports and scientific literature to understand sector-specific issues and needs, such as process management and green innovation aligned with EU Green Deal objectives. - Surveys and interviews with SMEs' managers, process leaders, and green managers to gather insights, refine research findings, and identify industry gaps and needs. - Organizing focus groups and co-design workshops during the initial Multiplier events, where the first draft of the Competence Framework was presented and stakeholders provided input on training program contents and delivery models. - Designing the training program based on insights gathered from previous activities, considering online or blended learning formats to accommodate instructional design preferences and pandemic-related constraints. - Production of training content, primarily focusing on online delivery methods. - Piloting the training program involving 75 experts across five countries. - Evaluation and assessment of the Competence Framework implementation through the training program, generating reports to refine and improve the framework. - Finalization of the Competence Framework, including the framework itself, a user guide, showcasing piloting activities as demonstrations, and outlining the main methodology. - Hosting a second round of multiplier events to present the finalized Competence Framework and the Training kit to stakeholders.
โถImpact
The main outcomes of the project were the GIF Competence Framework (R1) and the GIF Training Kit (R2). The GIF Competence Framework, delivered during the first year and subsequently revised almost at the end of the project, drew from existing experiences and was refined into a practical set of competences, sub-competences, and descriptors. To enhance its usability and adoption, the framework was complemented by several annexes, including a User Guide tailored for educators, training providers, and enterprise human resources. This guide offered practical insights and guidelines for implementing the GIF Competence Framework in educational and training programs. Additionally, a set of Use Cases provided real-world examples of the framework's implementation during the project. The GIF Training Kit, developed in Work Package 2, served as a resource to assist trainers in incorporating GIF approaches into their courses. This training kit included various components such as training contents for individual learning, interactive activities guides, and assessment methodologies and criteria for certificate provision. Throughout the project, various other outputs were produced. These included a report on existing Competence Frameworks addressing Green Deal competences for different target groups, as well as a report on existing frameworks within the fashion sector, analyzing key competences and skills. Additionally, reports detailing the surveys and interviews conducted as part of task 1.3 were generated. A detailed report outlining the requirements identified from various project tasks and the first round of multiplier events was also compiled. Finally, the pilot report summarized the outcomes of the piloting phase, including learning performances, feedback from learners and trainers regarding course coherence, usability, and effectiveness, thus providing valuable insights for further refinement and improvement.
