▶Objectives
BioSHOCK aimed to fully raise awareness among students regarding respect for biodiversity and the global challenges for protecting the planet. This objective was pursued starting from in-depth knowledge of an area of high naturalistic interest present in the territory. Furthermore, the project trained teachers on innovative models for developing teaching materials on biodiversity and environmental protection, in order to integrate them into the curriculum. This approach made it possible to evaluate learning outcomes in terms of sustainable citizenship competence among students.
▶Activities
The project aimed to carry out training and awareness-raising activities for male and female students. These activities were focused on promoting learning, in a simple and effective way, the importance of biodiversity conservation. The project also placed a strong emphasis on developing key skills and abilities such as critical thinking, self-awareness, teamwork and public speaking skills. A distinctive aspect of BioSHOCK was its inclusive approach, which involved the active participation of young people from backgrounds with fewer opportunities, thus ensuring an equitable and enriching learning experience for all participants.
▶Impact
The final result of the BioSHOCK project was the creation of the Teacher Toolkit "BioSHOCK Hacks for teachers: Cross-curricular approaches to Biodiversity". This toolkit, developed in collaboration with the students, was configured as a compendium of teaching units that addressed the theme of biodiversity. The lessons were structured so as to horizontally cross different fields of study, such as classical, scientific, linguistic and agricultural. Biodiversity was explored through three different approaches: scientific, ethical and cultural.
