Summary

The project was designed out of the realisation that the formal VET training programmes in Lithuania and Estonia are not fulfilling the needs of the transport companies. The member transportation companies of the Lithuania Carriers Union have noted that the Lithuanian formal VET training programme lacks international dimension, safety and sustainability aspects. Meanwhile, Estonia provided some university and college courses, however, the Freight Forwarders lacked practical and innovative training, such as training by simulation. Freight forwarding planning requires much more practical training approach which can be best implemented in VET training where 70 % of programmes must be carried out practically. At the same time, the transport sector also lacks the experts who can lobby on behalf of the transportation sector on the Governmental level, for example, to lead discussion with the Ministries or to contribute to the design of the legal acts concerning transportation of goods. Therefore, the two partners decided to look at the possibility to analise the competences of the freight forwarders and transport diplomats in an Erasmus small scale project.

Objectives

First of all, the partners aimed to identify and group the required competencies of Freight-forwarders in order to design the Qualifications Descriptions. After designing the Qualification Descriptions, they sought to outline a training programme by making a Plan, and finally the partners wanted to visualise an online simulation platform for the practical training of Freight Forwarders. The project partners aimed to consult the members of the Lithuanian Carriers Union while designing the Qualification Descriptions and get their approval.
