Objectives

In an age of technology, it is essential to give students a comprehensive understanding of the challenges facing our planet and to inspire them to become environmentally conscious citizens. DIGI4Clima aims to develop and promote a digital learning tool (DLT) on climate change that provides knowledge, raises awareness on environmental sustainability and promotes digital literacy. The DLT supports teachers in educating elementary school students about the dangerous effects of climate change, thus developing a respectful attitude towards nature, making them aware of the consequences of their daily actions and encouraging them to live more environmentally friendly lives. The project results were expected to provide teachers and students with access to high quality and easy to use digital learning resources on environmental sustainability, as well as to support educators in the use of ICT for face-to-face and distance learning. The implementation of the project results will build an international network of partner organisations and educational institutions using the DLT. The DLT emphasises the idea of unity and togetherness to highlight that we are all united in a global family and dependent on each other

Activities

The project was an international collaboration to contribute to two global issues: the fight against climate change and digital transformation. Climate change is one of the biggest threats to our environment, social environment and economy. The impacts of climate change are already visible and are expected to become more pronounced. Through Digi4Clima, we wanted to provide knowledge and raise awareness about environmental sustainability and climate change of project's target audience - teachers working with primary school students, who in turn are a generation with the potential from a young age to acquire the necessary competences to take responsibility for their actions towards a healthy global environment. The increasing volume of information and the rapid development of modern technologies make changes in pedagogical work necessary, so the use of digital learning tools in the teaching process is a topical issue in order to help students not only acquire the necessary knowledge, but also be prepared for the life in the digital environment. Effective digital learning requires the development of digital learning tools that go beyond the mere transfer of content into digital formats - these tools need to be interactive

Impact

The curriculum "Climate and its changes" is the first result of the project that consists of 12 lessons. The curriculum is intended for teachers’ work with primary school students. It defines learning objectives, describes planned activities of teachers and students, necessary materials for practical lessons, used literature and resources. Guidelines for teachers on the use of the digital learning tool "Climate and its changes" (DLT) are the second project result. The main aim of the guidelines is to provide a structured framework for effective introduction to complex concepts related to climate change. The guidelines reflect the approbation process of the DLT and include printable worksheets for students. The DLT "Climate and its changes" is the third project result. DLT is designed to provide knowledge, build skills and understanding of environmental sustainability and promote digital literacy. The DLT is intended for primary school students to learn about the dangerous effects of climate change on Earth. The tool is designed by adapting the information to the age of the students and ensuring that it is engaging and meaningful, using a combination of visual information, narration, interactive and practical activities.
