Summary

After the eradication of malaria from the last century until the year 2013,there was no mosquito research in RNM. Mosquito species were not monitored, their resistance to biocides was not monitored and the population had minimal knowledge or was not informedhow to contribute to the fight against mosquitoes.Since 2013,monitoring of the mosquito species has begun, but medical entomology not been sufficiently understood and little investment has been made in it. Being aware of the public health hazard of mosquitoes as carriers of viruses, bacteria, etc.that cause diseases in humans,we would like to spread our knowledge, the knowledge of our partners to the affected persons and thewider population, andcertainly the most important thing is to train people and improve the mosquito control in RN Macedonia by introducing a program to monitor mosquito resistance to biocides. With the above activities, we will raise the level of public health protection, for a better understanding of medical entomology as a science, raising eco-awareness among the population, raising awareness of responsible work of the concerned persons, following new methods in the fight against mosquitoes and strengthening of intersectoral cooperation and the ONE HEALTH approach.

Objectives

Mosquito controkl is a very complex process that includes several measures. We have been implementing some of the measures at national level, but it is not sufficient. For better control,it is also necessary to monitor the resistance to biocides due totheir mass use.In RNM there is a lack of specialists who would implement that measure and that was our main motive for this project- to educate staff on the procedure of testing the adult mosquito resistance to biocides. This would be a step forward towards successful control, safer health of the population and the environment. Among other things,it is of great importance to keep the attention of the population towards medical entomology as a science which is very little taughtabout. Our aim is to educate citizens about their role in the fight against mosquitoes and how to protect themselves, raise their environmental awareness, influence them to change their behavior towards the environment and all together contribute to a higher level of safe public health. To encourage the target institutions to work dedicatedly,to increasetheir financial support,to share good practices,to follow international innovative measures, since the biological control should be ourfor thedevelopment of an ent.
