Summary

The GREEEN project was developed to improve formal and informal education by supporting the development of active citizenship, environmental awareness, digital competences, and entrepreneurial skills among students and teachers. It responds to the need for more engaging, skills-based, and digitally integrated learning, as well as stronger cooperation between schools in Europe. Many schools still lack modern tools to address sustainability and entrepreneurship. This project connects schools from North Macedonia, Romania, Cyprus, and Italy to share good practices, co-create materials, and promote international collaboration. Students are given the opportunity to actively participate through creative outputs like comic book, online articles, and eco-actions. Teachers and students also jointly design extracurricular activities and online modules. The project encourages inclusion, creativity, and cultural exchange, and offers long-term benefits for education, community involvement, and international cooperation.

Objectives

The GREEEN project aimed to build the skills and capacities of students, teachers, and schools to address local and regional environmental, educational, and social challenges through inclusive and creative activities. The main objectives were to raise environmental awareness, promote digital and entrepreneurial education, and support collaboration across countries and school systems. Key objectives included: Digital platform for learning, sharing, and networking. Developing open educational resources, such as online lessons and extracurricular activities for Natural and Social Sciences, Art and Technology and curriculum for entrepreneurship. Strengthening digital skills through tools like the online journal Encouraging active citizenship through eco-actions and competitions. Supporting joint teacher-student projects to develop green business ideas. Promoting international teamwork and cross-cultural learning. Empowering pupils to take part in curriculum design and school activities.

Activities

The GREEEN project was implemented through five main Work Packages. WP1 focused on management and coordination, setting up the project structure and procedures for monitoring and reporting. WP2, the “Green Web” package, developed a digital platform with three parts: “The Green Journal,” an online youth magazine created by teachers and students; “The Green Classroom,” offering online modules in Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, IT, and Arts; and “The Green Games and Competitions,” including eco-tournaments, comic book contests, and a board game to engage students in environmental activities. Trainings in digital journalism, story writing, and visual editing supported these activities. WP3, “The Green Projects,” formed teams of pupils and teachers who received training in entrepreneurship and project design to carry out inclusive environmental projects addressing local challenges. WP4, “The Green Factory,” focused on creating open educational resources, including extracurricular activities and an environmental entrepreneurship curriculum, supporting national curricula and shared on the platform. WP5 handled communication, dissemination, and promotion of project results nationally and internationally.
