▶Objectives
The lack of a consolidated path focused on the needs of the Superyacht industry is generating a gap between the skills available and the actual demand. The project had the objective to create a means to contribute in closing this gap by setting the conditions to offer young people an adequate career path to build relevant skills and competences. Establishing a stronger cooperation between two key actors - MaritimeMT and ACREW - within the sector is also crucial to open up this market and increase youth employability.
▶Activities
Both MaritimeMT and ACREW are active stakeholders in the global Superyacht industry. MaritimeMT has an Academy dedicated towards the training of crew for this industry and ACREW is a focal entity when it comes to superyacht crew skill development and recognition, as well as solutions for superyacht owners and management companies. Through the experience of both entities in this industry, it is evident that there is a problem with crew longevity, quality of crew, and awareness of the career prospects within the superyacht industry. Both partners came together through the FutureCrew with the intention to better understand the industry needs, to create a network of stakeholders, create and outline clear career paths, undertand what training and skills are required, design a communication strategy to actively engage youths within the industry and enhance an international cooperation through a small-scale partnership. Ultimately the project was deviced to allow us to create a programme of training that would lead to a clearer yachting career path and therefore make employement in the yachting sector more accessible to new potential crew.
