Personalised Approach to Learning for Students with Special Educational Needs

We address the demand for tools, procedures, and competences of VET teachers to Personalised Approach of Learning. This requires a change in teaching; moving away from ‘one -size-fits-all’ towards a more person-centred and tailored-made approach to education that responds to individual needs of learners. Research concludes that dealing with diversity in the classroom forms one of the biggest challenges within classrooms. A Personalised Approach to Learning (PAL) that engages all learners, various learning strategies and support of the active participation of the learner in the learning process is needed. In current VET there is need for: • An individual plan that identifies and meet the needs of the learners. It is designed by a multidisciplinary team approach, easy-to-use, regularly reviewed and further developed. Learners are actively involved in this from the beginning till the end. • Procedures and tools for VET providers to have a tailored program for all learners, based on their individual needs. • Competence-building for teacher to get acquainted with PAL • Time for teachers to work in a setting where all students are addressed based on their own needs.

The project aims to increase the effectiveness of the outcomes of VET to students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) by exchanging current practices and building up competences of teachers and VET-organisation providing a Learner Centred Approach (LCA) for each student in their own organisation so they can increase the achievements of their educational and training efforts. More specific the objectives of the project are: • To understand the concept of LCA , the core-aspects of LCA and characteristics and elements of an Individual Learning Plan • To identify and describe innovative teaching methods, techniques and materials which contributes to more LCA of learning. • To identify and define criteria for developing individualised and flexible curricula • To gain and to improve competence of teachers in developing an Individual-Learning-Plan for each student based on the concept of LCA. • To test and to implement (put-into-practice) the LCA and Individual Planning in the daily practice of the teacher.
