Join the Game
โถSummary
Choosing a career, teenage girls often reject masculinized occupations (those in which there are more men than women, or are considered "masculine" in the social consciousness). This applies to both vocational and higher education. Girls do not take these occupations into account, despite the fact that they are in greater demand on the labor market and are associated with better wages, as research shows. This is due to the stereotypes young women encounter from an early age. Due to their beliefs about their own abilities and predispositions (deepened by the formal education system), they have a very limited career path. Young women, after graduating from education, decide to take up a profession that requires them to give up one of the social roles assigned to women (responsibility for running a home, raising children, caring for parents, etc.). This project was created to provide people working with girls and young women with tools that will respond to this problem.
โถObjectives
The aim of the project is to create tools and work out a working method for youth workers and popularize them in order to encourage girls and young women to work in masculinized professions (i.e. those considered stereotypically performed by men), and thus - to improve their situation on the market work.
โถActivities
Three LTT activities took place during the project: C1: safe space training, C2: urban games training, C3: tool-kit training. Four intellectual outputs were developed: R1 (IO1): The "Join the game" Urban Game - instructions and description R2 (IO2): The "Join the game" Urban Game - how to adapt? R3 (IO3): The "Join the game" Urban Game - tips for playing, roles and tasks for organization and youth workers R4 (IO4): The "Join the game" - how to play in the real world. There were also 3 transnational partner meetings and 4 dissemination events.
โถImpact
1. A "safe space" method was created and disseminated (how to create conditions for working with girls so that they feel safe), and thanks to this they are not afraid to try their hand at breaking stereotypes). The method is created as a checklist - making it a simple tool to work with. 2. A universal tool was created - an urban game - which can be adapted to own needs, but still will respond to the needs we have identified. The urban game "Join the Game" familiarizes participants with roles models, who have achieved success in a profession considered stereotypically "masculine". 3. A guide to game customization has been created, so that you can adapt it to your own needs. 4. Guidelines for conducting the game were created - how to lead and support the participants to make the game a success. 5. Nine audiovisual materials were created. They can be used as tools to introduce the topic of women on the labor market. These are interviews with girls and women who already work in professions considered "masculine". These videos can be a pretext for a conversation about opportunities and limitations regarding a professional career.
