▶Objectives
Theatre encourages active participation and engagement from students. The optional theatre course 'Theatre - Learning through Play' and the DVD with recorded plays that can be useful for teaching English aims to train key competences by making links between similar activities from different areas, starting from the teaching of English and proposing multidisciplinary approaches. Students had the opportunity to improve in a wide range of areas such as self-confidence, self-esteem, self-expression, communication, collaboration, interpersonal skills, and aesthetic awareness and, last but not least, imagination. We can sum up all of the above in one word; we can say 'communication'! Some other important benefits of drama, theatre and the performing arts, especially for young people, are physical, emotional and social, and they help to develop a healthy appreciation of culture and the arts. Aspects of drama, especially improvisation, help young people understand how to assess situations, think outside the box and be more confident in unfamiliar situations. Pupils learned to trust their ideas and abilities and appreciate arts and culture - because it has brought joy into their lives.
