Objectives

The project aimed to achieve the following objectives: Enhance Training: Develop and implement a new training course for teachers and VET trainers in macroscopic and microscopic metallographic examination, ensuring effective delivery of skills. Address Market Demand: Meet the growing need for standardized training in metallographic examination, aligning with industry requirements for structural materials and joints. Create Harmonized Curriculum: Establish a recognized, quality curriculum at the European level to enhance personnel training and qualifications, ensuring relevance in the labor market. Build Educational Resources: Develop materials and assessment tools including a database and random test generator to simplify evaluation processes for trainers and trainees. Boost Employment: Increase job prospects by equipping individuals with necessary skills, aiming to fill the gap of qualified personnel in metallographic examination. Enable Mobility: Utilize ECVET and Learning Outcomes approach for transparent qualifications, allowing workers to apply skills across European countries, enhancing career opportunities.

Activities

In the HIMACROW project, we implemented a range of activities across all Intellectual Outputs (IOs) to achieve our objectives. Here are the activities we carried out: IO1: Updating the EWF Guide - We conducted extensive research and analysis to update the European Welding Federation (EWF) guide on macroscopic and microscopic metallographic examination. - We incorporated the latest industry practices and standards into the guide to ensure its relevance and accuracy. IO2: Developing an Updated Harmonized Curriculum - We collaborated with experts in the field to develop an updated curriculum for the training course on macroscopic and microscopic metallographic examination. - The curriculum was designed to align with the updated EWF guide and meet the industry's changing needs and requirements. IO3: Course Development and Implementation - Based on the developed curriculum, we designed and implemented the training course on macroscopic and microscopic metallographic examination. - The course included theoretical and practical components to provide comprehensive training to participants. - We ensured that the course was delivered in accordance with the developed curriculum to maintain consistency and quality. IO4: Evaluation Question Preparation and Course Translation - We prepared a set of evaluation questions to assess the participants' understanding and proficiency in macroscopic and microscopic metallographic examination. - These questions were designed to gauge the effectiveness of the training course and to provide feedback for further improvement. - Additionally, we translated the course materials, including presentations, into the respective languages of each partner country. - This ensured accessibility and effective delivery of the training course to participants from different linguistic backgrounds. Through the implementation of these activities, we aimed to provide up-to-date training materials, deliver a comprehensive course, assess participant learning, and ensure effective communication and understanding among all partner countries.

Impact

The HIMACROW project yielded several concrete outputs and results. These include: Updated EWF Guide: The project produced an updated European Welding Federation (EWF) guide on macroscopic and microscopic metallographic examination. This comprehensive guide reflects the latest industry practices and standards in the field. Revised Curriculum: A revised curriculum for the training course on macroscopic and microscopic metallographic examination was developed. This curriculum aligns with the updated EWF guide and incorporates the changing needs and requirements of the industry. Training Course: The project successfully implemented the training course based on the revised curriculum. Participants received comprehensive theoretical and practical training in macroscopic and microscopic metallographic examination techniques. Evaluation Tools: A set of evaluation questions was prepared to assess participants' understanding and proficiency in the field. These evaluation tools provided valuable feedback to measure the effectiveness of the training course and identify areas for improvement. Translated Course Materials: The course materials, including presentations, were translated into the languages of the partner countries. This ensured effective communication and understanding among participants from different linguistic backgrounds. Four multiplier events, carried out in all four partner countries for disseminationg the project results with participants from the academic field, industrial areas and SMEs and students. Enhanced Job Opportunities: By equipping individuals with the necessary skills and qualifications, the project aimed to enhance job opportunities in the field of macroscopic and microscopic metallographic examination. This was achieved through the standardized curriculum and qualification developed during the project. Improved Mobility: The project utilized the European Credit System for Vocational Education and Training (ECVET) and the Learning Outcomes approach to facilitate the mobility of workers. This allowed individuals to apply their skills and qualifications across different European countries, enhancing their career prospects. These outputs and results of the HIMACROW project contributed to addressing market needs, improving training capabilities, and creating job opportunities in the field of macroscopic and microscopic metallographic examination.
