Objectives

This project aimed to implement a systematic approach to environmental education addressing the specific needs, knowledge, and skills that educated students/learners can offer in mitigating and adapting to climate change and promoting a larger process of social learning for sustainable development. Throughout the project processes, it was clear that each partner of the organization managed to develop action-based plans that consist of development plans, training programs, and strategies by benefiting from European experience and values as a result of transnational partnerships.

Activities

We carried out three-step processes so as to bring an environmental education plan within the district of each partner organization. At the first step of the project, we created ‘A Toolkit to Eco-Friendly Schools and Teacher Competencies for Environmental Education. In the second step ‘Agents of Change: Young Voices for the Environment MOOC (Massive Open Online Course)’ was created. In the third step of the project, the piloting process of the toolkit in the institutions was chosen on a voluntary basis was carried out. Thus, each partner organization ensured an environmental education that could be taught in different subject areas covered and curriculum content by implementing the necessary approaches to the teaching of environmental education.

Impact

• Each partner organization implemented necessary approaches to the teaching of environmental education; • Teachers and educators received adequate teacher training to ensure that they were well--equipped to provide teaching in environmental education across the different areas of the curriculum; • Teachers and educators guided students systematically and brought environmental education learning and change in schools through meticulous planning, innovative design, and action. • Teachers and educators had received adequate knowledge and experience in environmental education so as to influence students' behavior in preventing and managing environmental problems within their districts; • Students/Learners had the opportunity to build European citizenship by providing ideas for the exchange of learning as part of the project; • Students improved their confidence by enabling them to report and take action on issues of immediate concern.
