Summary

The "LEARN & EXCHANGE: Upskilling the Information Professionals of the Future" project was initiated to respond to the growing need for advanced digital skills among information professionals across various sectors. Rapid technological advancements have significantly transformed the processes of information production, organization, dissemination, and preservation. However, a considerable skills gap persists in areas such as data management, digital literacy, user experience design, cultural heritage digitization, and news literacy. Institutions and professionals require accessible, flexible, and multilingual learning opportunities to address these evolving demands. The project aimed to develop innovative Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) focused on practical competencies in the digital environment. Furthermore, it sought to promote the use of open educational resources, foster international cooperation, and strengthen lifelong learning pathways for information professionals. By addressing these needs, the project contributes to broader European objectives in enhancing digital readiness and supporting the digital transformation of education and information services.

Objectives

The primary objective of the "LEARN & EXCHANGE" project was to strengthen the digital competencies of information professionals by providing high-quality, accessible, and multilingual learning opportunities. Through the development of innovative Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), the project aimed to enhance practical skills in data management and visualization, digital literacy, cultural heritage digitization, information organization and access, news literacy, and user experience design. Additionally, the project sought to foster a culture of lifelong learning, promote the use of open educational resources, and increase the digital readiness of institutions and professionals. By encouraging international cooperation between universities, professional associations, and practitioners, the project intended to create a sustainable platform for sharing knowledge, best practices, and innovations in digital education. Ultimately, the project aimed to contribute to the broader European strategy of supporting digital transformation in education and ensuring that information professionals are fully equipped to meet the challenges of the evolving digital society.

Impact

The "LEARN & EXCHANGE" project resulted in the development of six innovative Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) addressing key areas such as data management and visualization, digital literacy, digitization of cultural heritage, information organization and access, news literacy, and user experience design. A multilingual digital learning platform was established to host the MOOCs and provide broad, inclusive access to training materials. Project guidelines and methodological frameworks were produced to support the sustainable implementation and use of the developed resources. Two Learning, Teaching, and Training Activities (LTTs) enhanced the practical competencies of participants. Transnational project meetings ensured effective coordination and quality assurance. Dissemination efforts, including conferences, multiplier events, promotional materials, and digital outreach campaigns, significantly increased the visibility and impact of the project. The project strengthened international cooperation among universities, professional associations, and practitioners, contributing to the broader advancement of digital skills within the information sector.
