Summary

By applying for a project using Erasmus+ funding, we wanted to highlight the importance of today's sustainability issues. We feel that spreading awareness of sustainability is a growing topic for today's generations of young people/students. Based on the experience of the Climate Rules project days implemented in secondary schools in the Czech Republic, we thought it would be good to deepen the awareness of this topic internationally. In this way, students will be exposed to topics within their local environment in an international setting through these project days and the Climate Rules game, which they will be able to present to students internationally and thus broaden their awareness of the topics relevant in other countries. As this is an international setting, the project was conducted in English throughout.

Objectives

The beneficiary wanted to achieve a wider awareness and a greater impact in the context of the SDGs. By being a "superstructure" for teaching secondary school students as our future generation. We believe that this can be achieved through activities, learning that is linked to play based on a project day. In this way, students are more easily immersed in the perception of the issue. In the context of Climate Rules, they will be given their roles, as state politicians in the highest positions, and thus we will give them the appropriate responsibility and function as an interesting outlet for addressing the topic. By extending the topic to an international setting, we wanted to motivate students across countries in addressing the issues that the country faces in relation to sustainability.

Activities

These were local activities of the Climate Rules project days, where high school students "saved planet earth" for the next era of existence. The game was played locally in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary and Poland. Each time 3-5 teams of students in a given country took part, with a total of 22 teams participating for the whole project. From the project days, many interesting ideas emerged on how to approach sustainability on planet Earth by fulfilling the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A full day program was prepared for all teams where they were guided through a game using different emerging technologies (saving using hydrogen, solar technologies, etc.), each country had their flag, drew their maps). Everything was electronically scored to determine the order of success of each team. After the PDs were conducted, further tasks were sent out in order to spread awareness in terms of impact on other students in their schools. All participants were involved in both the project day and the subsequent tasks. By gaining a score, the most successful high school from each country always progressed to the international virtual round, which then met successful teams from other countries at virtual conference.

Impact

The main output was the implementation of five project days in the participating countries on sustainability in the field of climate change using modern technologies. This was followed by the implementation of further tasks with an extension of the impact of the target group (secondary school students). Based on the satisfactions during all activities, a Virtual Summit (International Conference) was held. In one part, an international Climate Rules round took place with nominated schools across all countries participating. In the second part, a Spatial platform meeting was held where all students and other participants could meet in the form of Avatars. Another outcome is the evaluation of the feedback in the form of a questionnaire. Last output is the publicity of the project, which included: Flyers, promotional t-shirts, making RollUp, creating a website www.climatecontest.eu, social networking https://www.facebook.com/climaterulescontest, newsletter. As a result, 110 students and more than 20 teachers involved gained experience and knowledge of addressing climate change and related issues directly. Another indirect result the spread of awareness through follow-up assignments where students reached out to the wider community.
