Summary

This project has been requested to address the urgent need for digital inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities. People with intellectual disabilities face major challenges in a digitalised society, and only 1 in 10 people have access to assistive technology, which increases their social exclusion. The main objective is to promote the social inclusion and autonomy of these people through training in digital skills. In addition, it seeks to encourage the creation of accessible digital tools by technology companies. The project also addresses the lack of adequate resources and methodologies to train these people in digital skills, developing an inclusive and accessible training model. Transnational cooperation will allow organisations to share experiences and innovative solutions, designing a quality methodology adapted to the specific needs of people with intellectual disabilities. In short, the project aims to improve the digital inclusion and autonomy of these people through training and the promotion of accessible tools.

Objectives

Digitalisation is increasingly becoming part of our lives and the failure to handle it properly has led to the exclusion of some sectors of the population, especially people with disabilities. For this reason, we wanted to incorporate models of transnational cooperation, seek synergies with other entities and be more innovative in our actions. In order to be able to address the needs of people with disabilities in the digital world, as well as to contribute to the development of their digital competences. Our objectives have been: O1 To favour the social inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities. O2 To train people with intellectual disabilities in digital skills. O3 Promote the creation of accessible digital tools.

Activities

The activities were developed during 24 months and the three organisations involved have been in charge of developing each of the activities, following the quality standards of the Erasmus+ programme. Establishing a close collaboration that has allowed them to contribute to the objectives of the programme and achieve those that were set at the beginning of the proposals. The following activities have been carried out: A1: Management, coordination, monitoring and evaluation. A2: Analysis and research on the needs and problems of people with intellectual disabilities when using digital tools and design of an effective training plan. A3: Training plan. A4 Compilation and submission of proposals for making digital tools more accessible. A5 Dissemination.

Impact

Important intellectual outputs have been produced to promote the digital inclusion of this group. The research report identifies the barriers faced by people with intellectual disabilities when using new technologies and is available for other organisations to develop similar methodologies. A detailed specific methodology including activities and good practices. The report on the training and self-employment phase documents the implementation of the methodology in centres in Spain and Portugal, highlighting successful activities and adaptations made. Finally, a report with recommendations for companies details the adaptations needed in technology tools to promote inclusion, and is available to encourage technology companies to implement these improvements. These results aim to improve the digital skills and autonomy of people with intellectual disabilities, promoting their inclusion in the digital society. In addition to the realisation of coordination meetings and multiplier events.
