Promoting smart and sustainable agriculture and entrepreneurship among young people
▶Summary
Investing in campaigns and educational initiatives to inform the public about how agricultural production processes are linked to the environment and explaining the options available to address this is one of the key factors in achieving the goals of promoting more sustainable agriculture One of the needs addressed by the project is the need for improved entrepreneurial skills and knowledge about agricultural business opportunities by applying for EU funding. Moreover, the project addressed the need to support young farmers who are exposed to the risk of exclusion due to their socio-cultural background or because they are from rural areas and need help to improve their skills to better catch EU funding opportunities. Additionally, in light of the climate crisis the project addressed the need to promote sustainable agriculture to foster sustainable food production systems, help protect ecosystems and enhance adaptive capacity to climate change. Similarly, the project addresses the problem of an ageing farming population, emigration from rural areas, declining interest among the youth in agriculture, and ongoing natural disasters which are the result of the climate crisis.
▶Objectives
• Create a virtual space where young Europeans could learn and share new knowledge about agriculture and innovative solutions and opportunity in this sector • Make the agricultural sector a real and attractive job opportunity for young Europeans by the acquisition of relevant skills and competences, as well as innovative methods and activities for a new sustainable agriculture and a more efficient production system • Ensure that young people do not miss out on the funding opportunities made available by the European Union to start new businesses
▶Activities
To reach the previous objective the project will focus on the following activities • Research and publication on young potential entrepreneurs, new and innovative practises in the agricultural system • Training for young entrepreneurs in an online modality about new trends and issues in agricultural business and occupational profiles • Online dissemination and focus groups for the exchange and collection of information about new opportunities in agribusiness and EU funds • Dissemination and promotion activities through social media.
