The project’s primary goal was to empower students by making social and civic education more interactive and impactful. HEDA sought to provide teachers with innovative tools and methodologies, enabling them to teach complex civic themes through art, thereby enriching students’ understanding of democracy, human rights, and social justice. Additionally, HEDA aimed to establish a supportive network of educators committed to fostering inclusive and empathetic learning environments.

HEDA implemented various activities across participating countries, including a 10-step methodology, hands-on workshops, and a comprehensive e-learning platform. Teachers were trained to use theatre, visual arts, and music in lessons on civic values. The project hosted transnational meetings, international, national and regional teacher training workshops, as well as dissemination events, providing platforms for collaborative learning and practical application. Key case studies and digital resources were developed and shared to support the curriculum, adapted to each region’s cultural context.

The HEDA project produced several tangible outcomes, including an interactive e-learning platform, a set of case studies, and a structured methodology that guides teachers in using art for civic education. The project engaged over 6.000 students and 200 teachers across Europe, enhancing student empathy, civic awareness, and engagement. Feedback indicates that HEDA’s approach has transformed how teachers and students perceive and interact with civic education, establishing a foundation for future use of art in educational settings to address democratic values.
