Community Education for Social Inclusion of Migrants

The project responded to the need to create practices of dialogue and integration between migrant people and host communities, a need that is absolutely present in the three partner countries of the project, albeit in different ways. In Italy, the relationship between migrants and host communities is often hindered by the difficult living conditions that migrants have to face, in relation to basic aspects such as housing, work, access to language training and other training opportunities, as well as than to cultural conflict, to xenophobic attitudes that are not fought effectively. Even in traditionally more "welcoming" countries, such as Germany and Denmark, xenophobic attitudes are increasing, and foreign and local communities often live side by side without openly conflicting, but at the same time without interacting in a significant way. The need to activate practices and policies that implement the relationship between migrants and host communities is therefore a fundamental need in Europe.

The fundamental objective of the ComE project was to offer a contribution to the creation of practices of social inclusion of migrants and the construction of supportive communities inspired by an "Educating Community" approach. This through actions and activities that could connect organisations, operators, migrants, communities, with the aim of defining an educational model. Specific objectives of the action concerned: • sharing practices of social inclusion of migrants; • sharing and developing practices for building supportive communities; • sharing and development of practices for increasing the skills of operators with respect to educational community approaches.

ComE saw the implementation of the following activities: • Management activities for the correct carrying out of the Preparation, Implementation and Dissemination phases. • A Transnational Event for sharing practices of social inclusion of migrants • A Transnational Event on the theme of developing supportive and inclusive communities through an educating community approach • A Transnational Event on practices and approaches to increase operators' knowledge on inclusion practices aimed at migrants in an educating community approach. • Project results creation activities • Dissemination activities

The ComE project produced, in terms of material results: • research on the practices of social inclusion of migrants from an educating community perspective • A toolkit on tools for the development of reception and integration practices for migrants from an educating community perspective. • A report regarding training for operators involved in migrant reception systems, to develop skills with respect to educating community approaches. Three transnational events were held: • A Transnational Event in Denmark, for sharing practices of social inclusion of migrants from an educating community perspective. • A Transnational Event in Germany on the theme of developing supportive and inclusive communities. • A Transnational Event in Italy on practices and approaches to increase operators' knowledge of community education practices. Finally, the following were created: - eight online coordination meetings; - dissemination activities; - monitoring activities. In terms of learning impacts: - increase in knowledge and skills of operators and organizations on inclusion practices according to an educating community approach.
