Summary

Our application for this project was driven by the urgent need to educate and empower the next generation on the importance and practicalities of renewable energy sources. Recognizing the growing global challenge of climate change and environmental degradation, we aimed to address the educational gap in sustainable practices and green technologies. This project was specifically designed to increase awareness and skills related to renewable energy among students and educators across multiple countries, aligning with the EU’s commitment to climate action and sustainability. We identified a pressing need for more profound knowledge and practical skills in renewable energy within our school curricula. By integrating this project into our educational frameworks, we intended to foster not only understanding but also innovation and enthusiasm for sustainability among young learners and their communities. The project's goals were to equip participants with the capabilities to implement and advocate for green energy solutions actively, thereby contributing to a more sustainable future. Through collaborative international efforts, we also sought to strengthen the bonds between educational institutions across Europe.

Objectives

Our project aimed to foster a positive attitude towards green energy as a sustainable alternative to conventional sources, promoting environmental protection and reducing pollution. Key objectives included educating students on renewable energy through experiments, enhancing community awareness, and encouraging the dissemination of green energy information. We successfully educated over 20 teachers, as well as over 40 students from 5 partner countries, enhancing their understanding of and skills in renewable energy, ICT, and English. Activities involved practical experiments on energy production, seminars on renewable sources like solar and wind, and dissemination of findings to broaden community engagement. We also facilitated discussions on investment in renewable energy to reduce dependency on conventional sources, thereby contributing to sustainable economic development. The project significantly enhanced participants' knowledge and investigative skills, empowering them to advocate for and implement green energy solutions effectively. Additionally, the creation of the Green Book documented all project activities and learnings, serving as a valuable resource for extending the project’s impact beyond its immediate participants.

Activities

Our project implemented a series of LTT activities, focusing on renewable energy education and practical application; *Portugal: introduced participants to solar and wind energy through seminars and site visits, fostering foundational knowledge in renewable resources. *Italy: provided hands-on training in solar and wind energy systems, complemented by visits to local renewable installations to observe real-world applications. *Poland: engaged learners in workshops and experiments with solar and water energy, emphasizing practical skills and innovative energy solutions. *Romania: focused on geothermal and hydro energy, with field trips to significant energy production sites, enhancing understanding of large-scale renewable operations. Turkey: concluded with a comprehensive review of the project’s activities, assessing achievements and challenges, alongside promoting further dialogue on sustainability practices. Throughout the project, management activities ensured smooth coordination and implementation, fostering cross-country collaboration and knowledge exchange. Additionally, we developed the Green Book and Green Caledar documenting the project’s activities and promoting ongoing awareness and education on green energy solutions.

Impact

The project yielded several tangible outputs and impactful results: *Over 60 participants from 5 countries benefited from in-depth training on various types of renewable energy sources, including solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal energy,during LTTA. *Creation of the Green Book - a comprehensive compilation of all project activities, findings, and best practices in renewable energy education, distributed to schools and educational bodies across partner countries to enhance the curriculum and foster broader environmental awareness. *Green Calendar - created as an educational tool to keep the conversation about renewable energy alive throughout the year. *Practical exposure to actual renewable energy installations provided real-life learning experiences, solidifying theoretical knowledge gained in workshops. *Various community outreach programs and public events were conducted to disseminate knowledge about renewable energy and its benefits, reaching a wider audience outside the direct participant group. Aditionally: *Participants significantly improved their ICT skills, utilizing new technologies for researching, documenting, and disseminating information about renewable energy. *Participants' proficiency in English was enhanced.
