Different Flowers Make A Bouquet
▶Summary
We designed this project to address disabilities, social, economic and geographical barriers that students face in accessing national and international opportunities. As the partners from different social and cultural backgrounds but experiencing similar difficulties with our members, we associated with each other to produce solutions and to create a new dimension for each of us. We set the goal of inclusive school environment, including active participation, more communication, more tolerance and respect for every member of our organizations to open new doors to our members, to see different perspectives,to gain more transnational experience and to join European Education Area. We needed to widen our teachers’ perspective on diversity and inclusion and how to produce or transform accessible educational materials for an inclusive school environment. Moreover, we needed our students to learn about diversity and understand the importance of an inclusive environment besides learning basic digital skills and digital safety in addition to overcoming the difficulties of daily life skills such as cooking, sewing, time management.
▶Objectives
In this project, our objectives were; • to realize diversity and develop a sense of empathy and creating a culture of inclusion through raising awareness on different backgrounds • to support our teachers’ professional developments by promoting the use of inclusive teaching methods and technologies, so that to increase the quality of teaching and learning in our school • to promote daily living skills of students • to raise awareness on digital literacy and esafety • to enhance participants’ teamwork competence besides improving language and communication skills We wanted our members broaden their horizon by meeting new people from different backgrounds together with realising the diversity and developing a sense of empathy, promoting acceptance and inclusion of differences to achieve cultural awareness and expression competence. We wanted our students to understand the linguistic variety in Europe and to become aware of the need to learn foreign languages to achieve multilingual competence. We wanted to develop their critical thinking and teamwork abilities besides developing daily livingabilities, a life-long necessity for every person
▶Activities
We designed teacher training activity. The participants learned about the barriers of students through innovative workshops. They discovered stereotypes and learned how to enrich classroom management tehnniques. They experienced the disABILITY AWAREness workshop Labyrinth of Senses, using Non-Formal Learning methods. They discovered how to produce accessible educational materials besides visiting local policy makers. Students joined activities on” Digital Literacy” and “eSafety”. They used postermaking tools and video editting tools to design materials. They used KAHOOT! to learn about diversity and inclusion while illustrating characteristics of diversity and recognizing their differences and similarities. They discovered Erasmus+ opportunities besides increasing their team spirit with sports activities to address different abilities. They made a common Value Map and established group rules together. They joined a workshop to design their own materials with reusable textiles for environmental awareness. They joined tailoring workshop to improve their concentration. They decorated materials insignia with Erasmus+ and participating countries to notice the diversity. They joined a culinary workshop for cultural reflections.
▶Impact
Thanks to our project, we took a step to create the school of the future: sustainable, inclusive and digital. We added learning outcomes in our strategic plan of our schools, so inclusive education practices are being implemented for the future years as a culture. We prepared self evaluation forms with the experiences of participants. They evaluated the host organizations, the workshops and their achievements during the project activities (Added on ANNEXES). We made Evaluation Reports for each activity, including project objectives, aim of the evaluation, findings of the evaluation forms and results. (Added on ANNEXES). We prepared a project book in Turkish, English, Romanian and Greek. It consist of leaders’ messages, project partners, priorities of our project, project description and objectives, project activities, inclusion, benefits of inclusive education, inclusive activities for future projects, project results, European Education Area and references. We prepared 3 newsletter, which include activity details with photos of project activities. Moreover, we designed video presentation of project activities. We organized virtual exhibition of art contest, organized among secondary school students.
