Objectives

We aimed to celebrate the role of Older Adults as vital social resources and cultural ambassadors within their communities. We sought to empower them as Major Ambassadors (MAEM), facilitating their active participation in civic life and enabling them to convey shared values across generations. By recognizing their contributions, we envisioned creating opportunities for intergenerational learning, where citizens of all ages could appreciate the richness of cultural heritage. Given the Canary Islands' unique geographical position as a crossroads of Europe, America, and Africa, we aimed to leverage this setting to foster intercultural cooperation. We anticipated addressing the marginalization and social isolation faced by older adults, combating the negative perceptions that label them as burdens. Ultimately, we aspired to restore purpose and motivation to their lives, helping them regain self-esteem while enriching community life through their stories, traditions, and experiences. By showcasing their culture in engaging ways, we hoped to reduce loneliness and enhance community cohesion, ensuring that their invaluable contributions are celebrated and recognized, benefiting both individuals and society as a whole.
