▶Objectives
By implementing the project, we aimed to achieve several goals focused on environmental education and sustainable practices. We wanted to educate students about climate change, recycling, and energy and water conservation while increasing awareness of sustainable consumption and environmental protection within local communities. Encouraging active student participation in learning, we sought to engage parents and communities in climate action and raise awareness about environmental pollution, a common European issue. We aimed to enrich the curriculum by integrating new web tools and enhancing digital competences, communication, and critical thinking skills. Creating resources like the Teacher's Climate Guide, eco-calendars, e-books, and exhibitions of recycled materials, we focused on fostering awareness of limited energy resources and the importance of water. The project encouraged students to appreciate biodiversity and become responsible citizens by engaging in activities like gardening, creating animal shelters, and using Web 2.0 tools to express environmental concerns, thus motivating them to protect nature and support sustainable development.
▶Activities
The project featured a variety of activities designed to provide a comprehensive cultural and educational experience. Cultural workshops were organized, where students participated in traditional crafts, cooking classes, and storytelling sessions from each host country. Educational tours included visits to historical sites, museums, and landmarks to offer contextual learning and cultural immersion. Language exchange sessions allowed students to practice basic phrases and engage in simple conversations in the local languages. Collaborative projects involved group assignments and presentations that incorporated elements from each country’s culture. Social events such as welcome parties, cultural performances, and team-building exercises were also included to help students bond and enjoy their time together.
▶Impact
The project produced various concrete outputs that enhanced cultural awareness, language skills, and environmental education. Key outputs included the "Teacher's Climate Guide," a collaborative resource for climate education, and the Twinspace, project webpages, and social media accounts that facilitated communication and sharing among participants. E-guides for eTwinning, a Web 2.0 tools guide, and cloud storage methods were developed to enhance digital competencies. Students created PowerPoint presentations on topics like "Your Diet Is An Important Part Of Your Carbon Footprint & Eat Sustainably," "Climate Change Impacts," "What Causes Air Pollution?" and "Tips for Becoming an Environmentally Friendly School," along with a campaign, "Watch What You Buy," promoting sustainable consumption. Cultural exhibits highlighted learnings about Turkey, Spain, and Italy, while Erasmus trees were planted as a commitment to sustainability. These outputs led to increased cultural awareness, improved language skills, and stronger international relationships among schools, laying the foundation for future collaborations.
