In the same code: peer-to-peer education project in programming and robotics
▶Summary
In the Same Code project emerged in response to the growing need to reduce the digital divide in Gran Canaria, particularly among young people from areas with limited access to digital skills training. The COVID-19 pandemic and accelerated digital transformation highlighted the importance of developing technical skills in youth, especially in fields like programming and robotics. Additionally, the need for new teaching methodologies that promote active and participatory learning was identified. The project not only focused on developing digital skills but also on providing students with mentors through a peer-to-peer approach. The participation of the German partner, the Gerda Stetter Foundation, was crucial, as they brought their expertise by adapting a successful model from Germany to the Canary Islands' context, integrating innovative pedagogical approaches that significantly improved the region's educational quality. The project aimed to train 2,000 young people in programming and robotics through a peer-to-peer methodology, with a strong focus on including women and disadvantaged groups.
▶Objectives
The 'In the Same Code' project aimed to improve the digital skills of young people in Gran Canaria through a peer-to-peer training program in programming and robotics, so that all become active participants in the digital transformation of society. A central objective was the validation of the peer-to-peer training model as an innovative approach in technological education. It sought to enhance students' advanced digital skills, increase training and employment opportunities for vulnerable students, and implement new teaching models based on innovation and educational excellence. The project also aimed to increase women's access to digital training, ensuring equitable representation from an early age through mixed training teams. Additionally, it promoted cooperation between educational and vocational training actors, aligning with Erasmus+ priorities and contributing to equality and inclusion. The project also aimed to foster a collaborative and resilient learning community capable of adapting to the challenges of the digital age.
