Summary

We applied for the IncludeArt project to address educational challenges worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic, including the digital divide, educational inequality, and social exclusion among vulnerable students. These issues, highlighted in the EU reports "Teaching & Learning in the Digital Age" and "Eurochild's Growing up in Lockdown," were further emphasized by AECD's "Education at a Glance 2020," citing remote teaching difficulties, lack of teacher skills, and potential dropouts. The project focused on mitigating these challenges by equipping teachers with digital competencies and inclusive practices, aligning with the EU Digital Education Action Plan 2021-2027 and Europe 2020’s social inclusion priorities. Using innovative arts-based methodologies, like an educational web radio, IncludeArt empowered teachers to foster creativity, social inclusion, and digital equity. The project created more inclusive and resilient educational environments, supporting students at risk of exclusion and bridging digital gaps across partner countries.

Objectives

The IncludeArt project aimed to: - Strengthen Teacher Competencies**: Provide teachers with inclusive, creative methodologies to engage students at risk of exclusion. - Foster Social Inclusion**: Integrate arts and digital tools to address discrimination and improve student well-being. - Enhance Digital Skills**: Build digital competencies in teachers and students, using tools like an educational web radio to boost creativity and communication. - Promote Intercultural Dialogue**: Equip teachers to manage multicultural classrooms, fostering empathy and collaboration. - Support Cross-Curricular Learning**: Encourage integrating arts and digital tools to meet diverse student needs and improve engagement. - Improve Student Outcomes**: Motivate active participation, enhancing students’ creativity, communication skills, and inclusion. Aligned with EU priorities on digital transformation, inclusion, and diversity, the project delivered impactful results, including web radios, a success stories compendium, and learning modules, enriching education for teachers and students.

Activities

The IncludeArt project implemented diverse activities to meet its objectives, focusing on teachers’ and students’ needs while promoting inclusion, creativity, and digital skills: - WP1: Coordination and Management: A project management plan ensured smooth operations. Activities included a kick-off meeting, regular coordination meetings, a shared digital workspace, and periodic progress reports to align efforts and track progress. - WP2: Success Stories**: Partners conducted 15 interviews with local artists and documented 30 inclusion-focused success stories, culminating in a multilingual compendium distributed digitally and in print. - WP3: Learning Modules: Four modules (inclusion, communication, technicalities, licensing) were co-created through stakeholder engagement and five focus groups. Modules were tested at a three-day training in Palermo, then piloted with 197 teachers and 2,872 students across five countries, ensuring practical relevance. WP4: Five radio broadcasts, student media training, and school events promoted inclusion, guided by comprehensive tools. WP5: Events, campaigns, and a sustainability plan ensured lasting impact.

Impact

The project achieved key results: The Compendium of Success Stories highlights the journeys of marginalized artists, offering motivational and instructional tools for educators and students. Training modules on inclusion, communication, technicalities, and licensing equipped teachers with innovative methods for multicultural classrooms. The LTTA in Palermo brought together 17 representatives for hands-on training, fostering cross-cultural collaboration and refining project materials for diverse contexts. Five radio broadcasts and over 15 podcasts were created collaboratively by students and teachers using the Educational Web Radio platform. Comprehensive Web Radio Guidelines were developed to help educators set up and manage web radios, expanding access beyond the project. The project website hosts all resources, including training materials, success stories, guidelines, and podcasts, supporting sustainability. A PowerPoint version of the training materials was created based on feedback to provide teachers with a practical resource for implementing IncludeArt methodology. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/14q47QZo2AiqeaIyXrU1FTh-d1D2HFY3O?usp=drive_link
