โถObjectives
The objective of the project was to promote innovation and sustainable transformation within the food and tourism sectors by enhancing the interconnection between these ecosystems, encompassing education and culture. Through this collaborative initiative, we aimed to support the development of green, blue, digital, and entrepreneurial skills among owners and managers of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the food sector, tourism professionals, as well as students and educators across vocational, higher, and adult education. By augmenting these essential skills, the project contributes to the advancement of more sustainable, regenerative, inclusive, and resilient businesses and ecosystems within both the food and tourism industries.
โถActivities
In the context of the project, we executed a series of interconnected activities designed to enhance rural food tourism. Our initial efforts involved the collection of Best Practices and the identification of significant Challenges and Barriers hindering the development of tourism experiences. This analysis subsequently informed the creation of a Regenerative Guide specifically focused on the design of rural food tourism experiences. We developed Training Materials and Open Educational Resources (OER) specifically tailored for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in the food sector. In addition, we conducted Blended Pilot workshops that facilitated collaboration between local producers and tourism stakeholders. To ensure long-term impact, we produced comprehensive Guidelines for Educators and implemented extensive dissemination, exploitation, and advocacy initiatives aimed at strengthening the food tourism ecosystem. In addition, our efforts included the establishment of a Blended Incubator to foster innovation and promote the sustainability of the project.
โถImpact
The project delivered a rich variety of tangible outputs and impactful results, all of them available in https://food-zone.eu/. Remarkably, we developed a Catalogue of Practices and a Regenerative Guide, both aimed at enhancing rural food tourism experiences. To support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the food sector, we created tailored Training Materials and Open Educational Resources (OER), along with detailed Guidelines for Educators. A key achievement was the Call to Action, which underscored the importance of food tourism experiences as essential tools for fostering advancement, resilience, and recovery in rural tourism. Moreover, we provided targeted Policy Recommendations for a diverse set of stakeholders, including educators, chambers of agriculture and commerce, public authorities, tourism professionals, and tourism destination management organizations. To raise visibility and encourage engagement, we launched the Food Zone Campaign and hosted FOOD ZONE events across all partner countries. Ultimately, the project played a significant role in establishing concrete Regenerative Food Tourism experiences, thereby promoting sustainability and innovation within rural communities.
