Summary

MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERACY, A NEW MISSION FOR TEACHERS The very rapid evolution of our information environment requires the development of media and information literacy. Training to be informed and to inform, learning to analyze and develop the spirit of discernment first and foremost involves the education system, whose teachers say they are poorly trained in this issue. Our proposal supports educators in the development of these key skills so that young Europeans can meet the challenges of our digital environment, acquire the right online reflexes and have an appropriate use of the media. ÉDUCATION ON ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES We believe it is necessary to combine media literacy and the climate emergency. Media literacy allows young people to deepen their knowledge by questioning experts, scientists, activists, etc. to conduct their own investigations into ecological issues in their environmental, economic, social and cultural aspects. DISCOVER EUROPE Our project proposes to discover the European partner countries - France, Greece and Romania - by organizing activities between the beneficiaries.

Objectives

COMPLEMENTARY AREAS OF WORK Environmental education, European citizenship, media and information literacy : our project links these areas in a coherent manner and crosses three emergencies in connection with European directives. PROMOTING SYNERGIES To develop new educational practices in EMI, we encourage cooperation between teachers from 4 schools and journalists. Teachers and journalists co-construct actions so that everyone is aware of how information is spread and opinions are shaped on the Internet. Co-construction leads to actions where everyone acts according to their skills, missions, and practices. Teachers do not become journalists. Reporters do not improvise as teachers. FEELING EUROPEAN The notion of European construction becomes very concrete for young people when: - we meet information professionals, then investigate European issues with them, - we explore places and lifestyles in other European countries, - we exchange, debate, and work with students from other countries, - we go on stage together to share what we have learned.

Activities

MEETINGS The students met the partner journalists. By asking them questions, they discovered this profession and the challenges of producing information. They also met young people their age living in other European countries. CO-PRODUCTION OF REPORTS The dialogue with the journalists continued with the co-production of reports/interviews to understand how quality information is produced and its challenges. The classes benefited from the advice of information professionals to develop questionnaires and then produce media productions. SEMINARS The seminars for teachers took place in parallel with the International Journalism Conference, the European Journalism Conference or in emblematic locations of the European Union (Brussels and Strasbourg). These times of exchange strengthened the key skills of teachers in terms of EMI and European construction. MOBILITY The students from each participating establishment made 2 trips to a partner country. BEHIND THE SCENES AT EMICE At the end of the project, a theatrical restitution was presented in Paris bringing together young people from the three partner countries and their teachers.

Impact

MATERIAL FUNDING The management costs item has notably allowed partner establishments to equip themselves with equipment and computer and audiovisual tools that were used during the project and that will subsequently be used in other educational activities. It has also covered costs incurred when hosting partner establishments. THE COREALISED REPORTS The beneficiary students have developed around fifty interviews. The journalists have taken over by finding the interlocutors best able to answer the young people's questions. The interviews were conducted in the 3 partner countries and are freely available. The collaboration between students/teachers/journalists has resulted in media productions produced BY and FOR young people based on information collected from the best sources by the journalists. The project ended with a theatrical performance, the video of which is available on the Web. DOCUMENTING THE FIGHT AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE In the three partner countries, students conducted 18 interviews on environmental issues (floods, fires, energy, etc.)
