▶Objectives
The main objective of the project was to develop an innovative and interactive training approach for workers in the construction sector. This was driven by the high-risk nature of the sector and the challenges associated with a multicultural workforce, where many workers face language barriers and limited access to effective safety training. The specific objectives included: Creating and implementing a cutting-edge training course, utilizing a serious video game and a comprehensive toolkit designed for both workers and trainers in the construction sector. Developing a model of best practices to promote innovation in safety training, applicable at local and European levels. Generating long-term positive impacts on participating organizations and the education and vocational training sector. The main results of the project were: A manual outlining EU safety standards; A serious video game for immersive training and knowledge assessment; A toolkit comprising a video tutorial, a user manual for the video game, and PowerPoint presentations to facilitate knowledge transfer.
▶Activities
In the project, we implemented a series of essential activities to achieve the set objectives: Mapping of community regulations: Analysis of key EU regulations on safety to ensure the project’s compliance. Dissemination and communication: Creation of informational and promotional content, utilizing social media and other channels to engage partners and share results. Management and implementation: Coordination of the project through periodic meetings and progress monitoring using digital tools. Video game design: Definition of the functionalities and structure of the video game based on training requirements. Video game development: Programming and creation of the video game, integrating graphics, game mechanics, and interactive interfaces for both students and teachers. Development and production of the innovative training toolkit: Creation of manuals, video tutorials, and multimedia presentations to support the course. Validation of the innovative training course: Testing of the video game and toolkit through a pilot course, collecting feedback from teachers and workers to evaluate its effectiveness.
▶Impact
The project achieved several tangible results: A guide to European safety regulations: A comprehensive document outlining EU regulations applicable to the most common situations on construction sites. This guide served as a legislative reference for training and the development of the video game. An innovative training toolkit: Developed to enhance vocational education and training (VET) on construction site safety, the toolkit demonstrated key strengths: Clarity in presentation for learners, Effectiveness in training, Increased interest and attention from participants. Video game: An interactive tool leveraging gamification to engage workers, particularly migrants facing language barriers. Increased outreach and engagement: Through communication campaigns and a dedicated website, the project attracted the interest of trainers, workers, and safety professionals, expanding its impact beyond direct participants. These results not only validated the project's methods and tools but also contributed to the development of innovative approaches to construction site safety training.
