▶Objectives
The main objective of MIC4VET was to strengthen European cooperation for the recognition and validation of transversal competences through the use of micro-credentials. We aimed to develop a shared strategy that would make these competences visible, certifiable, and transferable across different learning contexts and countries. Specifically, the project sought to: define a common recognition model for soft skills; create a new professional profile in VET institutions dedicated to guidance and competence validation; and enhance the quality and flexibility of training pathways for learners with fewer opportunities. By involving VET providers, a university, an NGO, and a European network, MIC4VET intended to promote inclusive, personalised learning experiences, increase employability, and support the standardisation of micro-credentialing practices across Europe. The project also aimed to foster collaboration between education providers and labour market stakeholders to ensure the relevance and applicability of the proposed tools.
▶Activities
MIC4VET was structured around four main work packages. We first defined a common strategy for the recognition of transversal competences through a mapping of learning opportunities and the organisation of roundtables with local stakeholders. We then designed a tutor training path to support the recognition of micro-credentials and delivered both online sessions and five international study visits. A transversal skills evaluation model was created and applied, combining self-assessment, learning logs, and tutor validation. Trained tutors tested the strategy in VET centres with over 100 learners. Based on this, a Memorandum of Understanding with local stakeholders and a Consortium Agreement were developed. Dissemination was carried out through a structured communication plan, including monthly social media posts, multiplier events, and engagement with European networks. All activities were coordinated through regular transnational and online meetings, ensuring continuous monitoring and alignment with project objectives.
▶Impact
MIC4VET produced several key outputs. First, a Transversal Skills Evaluation Model was developed and tested, focusing on teamwork and flexibility/adaptability, structured across six stages and aligned with EQF levels. This model was integrated into a Training Manual for Tutors, enabling consistent guidance and validation of micro-credentials. A Map of Local Learning Opportunities was compiled across partner countries to support orientation. Two strategic documents were formalised: a Memorandum of Understanding between VET providers and local stakeholders, and a Consortium Agreement for transnational recognition of micro-credentials. Over 100 learners participated in the pilot testing phase. Additionally, a Communication and Dissemination Plan supported visibility through monthly LinkedIn posts, roundtables, and multiplier events in each partner country. These results support the adoption of micro-credentialing practices and reinforce European cooperation in recognising transversal competences in VET.
