Boosting lifelong learning awareness of European Green Deal

We applied for this project to exchange good practices as regarded empowering partner organizations to deliver the European Green Deal, because the Partners were convinced that current societal challenges and crisis (the return of war in Europe, the energy crisis, the recent covid pandemic just to name a few) return of war in Europe) have given an acceleration to the necessity of transformation that were pre-existing, for instance as response to tackle climate change, to mitigate them and or adapt to them. In some field of education there’s evidence of developing trends on greening, with many organizations already involved in initiatives on environmental sustainability on its mainstreaming in connection and cross-fertilisation with other on-going transformation processes, such as for instance digitalisation, social inclusion and enhancement of learning and teaching. The Partners intended to bring their contribution in aligning to green practices, across the board within their provisions, encompassing learning and teaching, vision, planning and governance, active learners and staff participation, energy efficient management of office spaces and resources, partnerships with local and wider communities, and research and innovation.

We applied for this project to exchange good practices as regarded empowering partner organizations to deliver the European Green Deal, with the following general objectives: - to develop competences of Partners, in the field of adult education and lifelong learning in order to: - favor the alignment of their operations and strategies to the delivery of the European Green Deal, to bring bottom-up contribution: in making Europe the first climate neutral continent in the world, in making also the adult education domain fit to meet this challenge on the path to reach EU climate targets in a fair, cost effective and competitive way; - to raise the awareness of the recipients of their learning provisions as regards the potential to transform our societies and our economy through the European Green Deal to enable behavioural changes for individual preferences, cultural values, and more generally support active engagement for sustainable development; - to reinforce the capacities Partners’ trainers/teachers, staff as a whole as regards concrete actions to be undertaken towards achieving the goals set by the Green Deal specifically as regards: emissions reduction, improvement of health and wellbeing, creation of jobs and growth.

The exchange of good practices and acquisition of new knowledge was based on the implementation of the following meetings & training events: -21 January 2023, Ascoli Piceno (Italy): to make the adult education domain fit to meet the challenge of EU climate targets in a fair and cost-effective way -15 July 2023, Brussels (Belgium), based on the EU Green Deal pillars: “Working with nature to protect our planet and health” and “Renovating buildings for greener lifestyles”. -21 October 2023, Bucharest (Romania), based on the EU Green Deal pillars: “Making transport sustainable for all”, “Leading the third industrial revolution” and “Cleaning our energy system”. The activities were implemented with the goal of helping Partners develop skills in connection to the European Green Deal, supporting them towards the green transition along with the development of their capacities to conceive and design updated learning environments, adequate to the present and future challenges of the green transition, considering the beneficial integration of the pillars set by the EU Green Deal and in particular exploring how said pillars can be used to facilitate learning processes, helping to bypass conditioned pattern of thinking

- supported professional development with a view to greening Partners’ provisions while innovating and improving the quality of teaching, training: using learning outcomes based on the delivery of the EU Green Deal; - increased awareness as regards the responsibility of Adult Education institutions towards the delivery of the EU Green Deal; The exchange of good practices during (and in-between) the 3 transnational project meetings & training events were prepared thanks to specific questionnaires developed and filled out by the project’s teams and presented during the meetings; among others, the questionnaires addressed the following: - needs in terms of capacity building and good practices as regarded the EU Green Deal pillars: “Making transport sustainable for all”, “Leading the third industrial revolution”, “Cleaning our energy system”, “Working with nature to protect our planet and health”, “Renovating buildings for greener lifestyles” It’s worth mentioning how the event in Brussels was dedicated in particular to the discovery of the Energy Performance of Building Directive (under revision), to Non Commercial Advertising and sustainability, while that in Bucharest was dedicated to Air quality monitoring and better legislation
