Objectives

GAME land main goal is to advance (or enhance) Language for Specific Purposes (LSP) teaching in Higher Education, aligning student competencies with the demands of the international labour market. Specifically: Develop a model of increasing language competences (including specialist and soft skills). Promote new innovative educational practices, including in particular the use of the latest technological advances (e.g., Mobile Learning and Game-Based Learning). Develop and make available an attractive, intuitive, multilingual, and engaging tool (the "GAMEland" serious game), which will be accessible without restrictions free of charge due to, among others, age, place of residence, wealth, or education.

Activities

The project implementation focused on a cycle of development, translation, and validation to produce the final serious game tool. The key activities were: Development of the game prototype: creating the initial version of the GAMEland application, including core mechanics and preliminary scenarios. Testing the prototype: conducting initial trials of the prototype to gather feedback and identify areas for improvement in functionality and pedagogical effectiveness. Development of additional game scenarios by partners: co-creating specialised scenarios covering different professional contexts and intercultural issues, utilizing the expertise of all partner institutions. Translation of the game: localising the game content and interface into the languages of all partners to ensure multilingual accessibility. Testing of the game scenarios in the wider circle of potential users: conducting extensive field-testing with a diverse group of students and teachers to validate the scenarios and the overall educational impact before final release.

Impact

The main result is the creation of the GAMEland Serious Game application, an intuitive and multilingual tool combining expertise in linguistics, game mechanics, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support multidimensional education. Key outputs include: - Game scenarios: scenarios covering intercultural issues and professional situations, such as building professional relations, risk management, and problem-solving, designed to strengthen language and soft skills. - Multilingual resources: the game and the final pedagogical framework are publicly available in partners’ languages. - Strengthened international collaboration: the project established sustainable collaboration among five HEIs and one industrial partner, enhancing cooperation through co-design activities and creating synergy to continue beyond the project. Policy recommendations and guidelines: a scientifically validated framework enabled the development of guidelines for effective use of the GAMEland tool, gamification, and mobile learning in LSP teaching.
