Summary

The project was born in response to a clear gap in key language skills, basic skills and employability that affects a large part of the migrant population involved in VET education in several EU Member States and partner countries. The traditional approach to education, which focuses more on the transmission of knowledge than on the acquisition of practical skills, does not adequately address the needs of this population. Adult migrants require a broader set of skills to successfully enter the labour market and become active, independent and contributing citizens to society. Our research has shown that while language and employability skills improve for those who are already in employment, thanks to investments made by employers, young migrants, especially those with special language and digital needs (related to migration, health, Covid-19 restrictions, learning difficulties, low income and lack of education), remain excluded from developing the key skills needed for a fulfilling career. The project responded to these needs by offering a personalized language and digital education model, designed to take into account individual differences, educating adult migrants with learning difficulties, with special language needs.

Objectives

The main objectives aimed to comprehensively address the educational and professional needs of migrant students involved in VET activities, in order to fill the existing gaps in language, digital and employability skills, adopting an innovative and inclusive approach that aimed to improve teaching methodologies and integrate cutting-edge digital tools. The 1st objective was to provide VET students, teachers and the local business community with in-depth knowledge of the factors that influence the acquisition of host national language skills. This knowledge was transferred through the development of pedagogical materials specifically designed to prepare students, both migrant and national, for the creation of job or business opportunities. The second objective aimed to develop and improve VET teachers' pedagogical approaches, through the enhancement of digital skills, enabling educators to use new learning models, individualized and blended; the approach made the educational process more flexible and adaptable, meeting the needs of migrant students, offering personalized learning paths. Another objective was to encourage migrant VET students to become aware of their level of language skills.
