▶Objectives
The objective of the project was to train a team of specialists in Latvia, which includes mental health specialists, educators, social workers and horse specialists, to make services in horse assisted activities available in Latvia, as it is in many other places in the world. In Latvia only hippotherapy is available, which has other functions and does not provide psychological and learning support at the quality and intensity as it does in horse assisted therapy and learning, where work with the client takes place in the presence of horses, solving mental health problems and promoting skills in various areas of life. Some places in Latvia offer horse assisted therapy and learning services under the guidance of specialists who have not undergone training in an organisation that is approved / recognised in this field. The involvement of mental health and other specialists who work with people in the project was considered essential, because information about this field was very sparse in Latvia and interest about it was mostly shown by the horse owners who lack the knowledge in psychology and pedagogy; and by training just horse specialists, provision of full scope of the service would still not be possible.
