▶Objectives
Our goal was to achieve comprehensive results focused on urban revitalisation, sustainable environmental development and the professional development of young graduates. As part of the project, we developed an innovative, multidisciplinary curriculum designed to educate a new type of specialist capable of combining engineering, agronomic and social knowledge in the design and implementation of sustainable roofing solutions. The project aimed not only to promote the exchange of knowledge and innovative teaching methods, but also to provide practical, work-based forms of education that increase young people's chances of finding employment in a competitive labour market. By promoting the idea of lifelong learning and creating an e-learning platform with training modules and job placement tools, we sought to strengthen cooperation between education and industry. The end result was the preparation of a new generation of specialists equipped with the technical and environmental skills necessary to protect the environment, support urban biodiversity and improve energy efficiency, thereby building a more sustainable and inclusive urban future.
▶Activities
The project implemented a wide range of activities across five work packages. 'Project management' ensured quality control, communication, and collaboration through an online workspace. 'Training course development' included stakeholder consultations, a competence framework, modular content, and a Moodle-based e-learning platform with job placement opportunities. 'Learning Snacks' were created as short, practical materials for trainers, tested during a “Train the Trainers” event in Portugal. 'Guidelines for Green Roofs Training' were developed based on pilot testing with students and educators to support course adoption in higher education. Finally, 'Dissemination and exploitation' activities included a project website, social media promotion, visual materials, and national final conferences. Together, these efforts produced an innovative, practice-oriented training program that strengthens green skills, supports sustainable urban development, and fosters new employment opportunities in the green economy.
▶Impact
The project produced several tangible outcomes that advanced both education and environmental sustainability. Its main achievement was the creation of a new professional profile, supported by a comprehensive, modular training course and multilingual e-learning platform with job-placement opportunities. The project delivered a competence framework, a training plan, and work-based learning experiences, providing young professionals with practical green skills. Additional key outputs included a collection of Learning Snacks and methodological resources for trainers, as well as Guidelines for Green Roofs Training, offering best practices for integrating this curriculum into higher education. The consortium also produced extensive dissemination materials — including a website, social media channels, promotional videos, infographics, and national conferences — ensuring broad visibility and long-term impact. Overall, the project established a sustainable, open-access educational model that enhances employability, supports urban regeneration, and promotes the transition toward greener cities.
