Objectives

The main goal of the project was giving a decision support app for managers of the vessels in case of detecting the potential infectious disease on board and preventing its spreading by giving a short advice on what steps should be taken after having such prediction.DESSEV tool is such one.It provides a holistic risk management tool for pandemic control on board ocean-going ships. The main strength of the DESSEV online decision support system lies in its ability to manage risks. The initial step in risk management is generally known to be recognising hazards. When the risk level is known, the mitigating actions help manage the risk and lower the risk to a tolerable level. The DESSEV decision support system assists in recognising the hazard precisely and provides mitigating actions to manage the situation further.DESSEV decision support system is strongly present in every step of the risk management process in a safety-critical environment. The future of the DESSEV decision support system is conditional on the successful implementation of the novel tool in a conventional safety management.DESSEV is a decision support system,it gives a prediction of disease, not a diagnose and it’s not replacing the medical advice.

Activities

The project included the following activities: WP1–project management:including budget control, time management, monitoring tasks and managing whole issues during project time, WP2–data repository on epidemic situations including:documents research and collecting materials, focus group report and translations. WP3–knowledge base:built the noSQL database and designing the prediction algorithms, testing the completeness of the database and the correctness of the algorithms. WP4-development of the decision support system including:user cases, functionalities and design of the application, pilot testing and translation. WP5- learning/Teaching/Training event:three days training. 5 Transnational and several virtual partners meetings. Dissemination of the project:published 3 articles and several conferences speeches, dissemination events in all partner countries, social media:LinkedIN,newsletters and informing letters to companies. Quality control of the project:monitoring of key performance indicators, meeting evaluation, impact evaluation.

Impact

The outputs of the project are: a)data repository available online www.dessevproject.eu/repository more than 50 documents relating directly to epidemic situations on board,IMO & WHO recommendations,Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, cases reports and a number of scientific articles relating to travel medicine and infectious diseases. b)knowledge base, available online on https://dessevproject.eu/knowledge-base.NoSQL database consists of 22 infectious diseases categorized in 8 groups of symptoms, described by 35 sings. The knowledge base was built on base of medical cases and medical knowledge. c)decision support App available online as a web application: https://dessevproject.eu/app/ or mobile application available from google store Dessev for Android system. The app has built in prediction models based on Dessev`s knowledge base and random forest model. The application is available in seven languages. Dissemination:6 events in each partner country, project website, published 3 articles and attendance with a speech in 5 conferences,5 newsletters, dissemination report. Quality:peer review reports in each WP,quality reports after:meetings, training and interim report. Management:mindmap, interim report, final report.
