Learning by SHAring Knowledge in dEsign for AM

The field of Additive Manufacturing (AM) is changing rapidly, and the workforce's demands cannot be met by the educational programs that are currently in place. This is the case of Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM), where there is a growing need of qualified personal, especially in industries using Additive Manufacturing (AM). Regarding that concern, the ShakeAM project was developed to address the critical gaps in skills and knowledge related to DfAM, aiming to equip students and professionals with the necessary knowledge, including digital skills like Computer-Aided Design (CAD), generative design, and sustainability aspects. The ShakeAM project also tried to address digital inclusion and skills gap for students with Special Educational Needs, focusing on both technical and transversal skills such as design thinking and problem-solving.

By implementing the ShakeAM project the main goals to achieve were to: - Enhance DfAM skills for students and professionals. - Support the digital transformation of Higher Education (HE) institutions by adopting new learning methodologies. - Improve knowledge-sharing by sharing best practices, promoting innovative teaching practices, and strengthening the interconnection between HE and industry using a DfAM Digital Ecosystem. This ecosystem supports lifelong learning, ensuring that students and professionals acquire the latest skills necessary for the rapidly evolving AM industry - Promote inclusive education by developing teaching materials accessible to students with Special Educational Needs, while fostering engagement with industry through collaborative educational efforts These goals were achieved by creating a unique and virtual transnational learning environment for collaborative and progressive work on DfAM, comprising the training pillar and the communication/share knowledge sphere.

The Shake AM project included 5 work packages and 22 activities, which can be divided into management and implementation. In terms of project implementation several key activities were carried out, namely: •The development of the overall training methodology (teaching methods, assessment strategy) •The creation of guidelines for inclusive teaching methods •The development of the DfAM Digital Ecosystem (forum, best practice database) • 2 Train the Trainer sessions to equip educators with the necessary skills to use innovative pedagogies and digital tools. •The development of the Competence Units (CUs) and Learning Outcomes (LOs) for DfAM (curriculum development) •The creation of content for DfAM best practices for database and assessment. •The development of the teaching material not envisaged in the approved proposal •The internal peer review of teaching material and assessment tool •Pilots in 3 partner countries and the subsequent validation of the ecosystem. •The transferability of the ShakeAM methodology to other profiles in AM •Hosting 4 multiplier events and 1 European conference •4 TPMs •Dissemination of the project's results •The exploitation and sustainability actions of the project activities results
