▶Objectives
Our project aimed to empower agri-food SMEs to shift from a linear to a circular economy. We set out to develop a comprehensive Circular Economy Manager (CEM) profile and design an innovative, gamified VET curriculum that equips SME managers with essential skills for sustainable practices. Our objectives were to bridge the skills gap in circular economy practices, enhance resource efficiency, and foster digital transformation in line with EU priorities such as the Green Deal. We also aimed to establish a certification process for the CEM profile, ensuring its recognition across Europe, and to create a replicable training model adaptable to other sectors. Ultimately, our goal was to boost SME competitiveness and drive long-term sustainable growth.
▶Activities
We implemented a comprehensive set of activities to drive the circular economy transition among agri‑food SMEs. We began with robust project management and regular transnational meetings to ensure effective coordination and assimilation of project goals, supported by continuous digital communication and quality evaluations. A thorough needs analysis was conducted across partner countries to identify skills gaps, which informed the development of a specialized Circular Economy Manager (CEM) profile. Building on these insights, we designed an innovative hybrid VET training course integrating theoretical modules with gamified, practical learning. Importantly, we piloted the training with a select group of SMEs before full-scale rollout to refine content and delivery. Additionally, interactive mini‑games were developed to reinforce learning, while multiplier events and workshops helped disseminate our results. Sustainability measures were set to ensure that our outputs, including the Policy Handbook, remain effective and adaptable beyond the project’s lifetime.
▶Impact
In WP1, we developed the management plan & tools, a CDE plan, and promotional materials. 3 NLs were published, alongside a website and social media channels (YouTube, X, LinkedIn, Instagram). A quality plan was established to ensure project standards. WP2 focused on the needs analysis of the circular economy, producing national reports compiled into a comparative report. We designed the Circular Economy Management Framework and the Circular Economy Manager Profile, developing content, guidelines, and training materials. The curriculum was created and evaluated, with interactive resources integrated into the final version. WP3 delivered the training model and content. An LTTA was conducted to align knowledge levels. The Circular Economy Manager pilot program was launched, generating national reports and a comparative report. The training’s learning outcomes were evaluated, and a mid-term transnational project meeting occured. WP4 focused on CEM mini-games, covering pedagogical aspects, design, development, and stakeholder validation, ensuring they were engaging and aligned with training objectives. WP5 produced the Circular Economy Manager Policy Handbook and an Action Plan for Policy Reform, the MEs and the final meeting.
