Promoting development of Active Citizenship, intercultural competences, European values and critical thinking

With the project, we wanted to highlight the importance of active Citizenship as the ability to act as responsible citizens and to fully participate in civic and social life, based on an understanding of social, economic, legal, and political concepts and structures, as well as global developments and sustainability. Moreover, to support facilitators in the provision of global citizenship education; improve education methods regarding citizenship education; improve educator's knowledge of new teaching methods (engaging, project-based valuable, and ready teaching scenarios); help students better understand different cultures, stimulate intercultural understanding and cultural sensitivity; enhance the idea of European Citizenship Education as a cross-curricular subject.

With the project, we aim to promote active citizenship, raise awareness about common values of freedom, tolerance, and non-discrimination, strengthen social cohesion, and help young people become responsible, open-minded, and active members of our diverse and inclusive society. It's about building educators' confidence and capacity in innovative methodologies and tools that help young people become aware citizens. PACE resources allow us to improve and train Key competencies for Lifelong Learning. The project aims to support the professional development of educators. NO to prejudice and aggression.

PACE project implemented 2 core activities: development of micro-units, preparation of the Facilitator’s Diary as well as 2 horizontal activities: project management and communication. Design of 6 units of educational transformative resources (with methodological guidance), which build the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes that learners need to contribute to a more inclusive and peaceful world. Through the PACE project methodology applied in Citizenship Education, the student is going to acquire knowledge, understanding, and critical thinking about global, regional, national, and local issues. (2) is going to develop a sense of belonging to common humanity, sharing values and responsibilities, empathy, solidarity, and respect for differences and diversity. (3) is encouraged to act effectively and responsibly for a more peaceful and sustainable world. Resources are fostering the development of intercultural competencies, critical thinking & Citizenship competence listed as 1 of the key competencies for lifelong learning. Development of OERs and engaging methods to enhance the professional development of those working or active in education (formal and non-formal).

Outputs (planned): Collection of feedback and best practices from 21 educators/teachers (15 planned) (needs analysis), input to the identification of thematic areas & creation of Methodological Guidelines for the UNITS. 6 Micro-Units (Open Educational Resources) available in 4 languages (EN, SE, IT, PL) Facilitator Guide (document for the educators, about 45 pages), available in 4 languages (EN, SE, IT, PL). Training with validation sessions for teachers/educators (min. 10 planned, 24 involved). Piloting with students (min. 20 planned, 59 involved). Outputs (additional results of the project, not included in the application): 1 online platform where the materials are stored, freely accessible for the public (Creative Commons Licence) PACE GAME: card deck with 162 playing cards - the game is a transversal tool, complementary to the educational resources (it facilitates discussion and reflection on 6 topics).
