▶Objectives
We entered the project with a Czech partner, our goal was to build an educational program, strengthen the partnership and make the activity in the fight against climate change more effective with the topic of textile waste as an alarming factor of environmental deterioration. The goal of the project was clearly to create a tool for lecture cycles for students at different levels of schools, we wanted to enter the educational process both in Slovakia and in the Czech Republic. The educational aid in the form of a documentary film was supposed to be a motivational factor for children and youth on how to perceive textile waste, fast fashion, slow fashion, how to build habits for sorting textile waste, and in the end we were concerned with the connection of educational activity with environmental protection. There is a lack of awareness about textile waste even within green schools, and it is very important to spread this idea precisely in this target group, because from 2025 textile collection will become mandatory. The goal of the project was to train teaching staff in this educational activity and to educate them in this area not only for the dissemination of the lecture itself, but also for other supporting activities at schools.
▶Activities
The activities implemented in the project were started by a coordination meeting of the partners, which created the basic framework for the creation of an educational documentary film as well as the framework for the dissemination of lecture series. The two main activities of the entire project were the creation of educational material in the form of a documentary film, as well as the creation of a lecture outline so that it would be applicable for target groups and also for teaching staff, who will spread the results of the project even after the end of the project. Meetings of the partners were very frequent, either in person or online, so that the mechanisms of the project's outputs were unified for all partners and were applicable in the teaching process. After the documentary film was made, the entire film was subtitled in Czech and English according to the language law. At the beginning of March, a ceremonial premiere of the film took place in Bratislava with the participation of many guests, pupils and teaching staff, and all partners. The final activities consisted of a series of lectures in the Czech and Slovak Republics, as well as training seminars for workers.
▶Impact
The output of the project is a very effective comprehensive educational material consisting of an effective documentary film about textile waste accompanied by an explanation by the lecturer. The outputs of the project are not only a series of lecture series at various schools in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, but also activities related to the perception of the secondary use of textiles in the form of very successful SWAPs, i.e. clothing exchanges, which were carried out either directly at the school or as urban SWAPs, which were created after lectures in the given city. The number of lectures that we set in the project in both partner countries was exceeded, and due to the enormous interest, more are planned for the 2023/2024 school year. Partner Ekocharita Slovensko also launched other activities in Slovakia, the so-called school collection of textiles, which as an idea will also be transferred to the partner in the Czech Republic, and the reward for the participating schools will be a lecture that was created by this project. From the beginning of the new school year, we will actively devote ourselves to the training of teaching staff, the documentary film is available on request from our Slovak and Czech partners.
