▶Objectives
Our project aimed to achieve several key objectives that benefited both educators and students, fostering a conducive environment for long-term success and well-being. We focused on enhancing student development by equipping them with delayed gratification skills, teaching self-discipline, and self-control, and building mental toughness and emotional resilience using techniques like grit and positive psychology. For educators, we provided innovative teaching strategies and equipped them with step-by-step methods for character development and trust-building. Our goal was to support their professional growth and effectiveness in creating classrooms that promoted long-term educational outcomes and personal development. We addressed broader educational and social issues by implementing strategies to help students manage their use of technology and reduce the risk of addiction. The project aligned with educational priorities, supporting the development of social competencies necessary for promoting active citizenship and lifelong learning. It enabled students to acquire critical life skills essential for personal and academic success, ensuring they were well-prepared for future challenges.
▶Activities
Throughout the project, we implemented a range of activities aimed at achieving our goals effectively. Through research and analysis, we explored and developed the concept of delayed gratification and its implications for education. Surveys were designed and distributed to primary school teachers across three countries. The aim was to gather insights into their challenges and needs regarding the development of delayed gratification skills among students. We developed comprehensive training materials: a Competency Matrix, a booklet, and a teacher training program. We ensured that all training materials were designed with accessibility in mind. We conducted pilot testing of the training materials that allowed us to gather feedback, and identify areas for improvement. We organized and facilitated training workshops (LTT) for teachers, focused on the practical implementation of delayed gratification strategies in classroom settings. Throughout the project, we monitored the progress of activities, collected feedback from participants, and evaluated the impact of the training program. Through these activities, our goal was to empower educators with the necessary skills and resources to promote delayed gratification among students.
▶Impact
The implementation of the project was aimed at improving delayed gratification skills among students aged 7-11 years. We have developed a comprehensive booklet containing best practices from European education systems and research, equipping teachers with practical strategies, activities, and case studies. In addition, a companion book tailored for teachers includes exercises designed to engage students and encourage patience, persistence, and self-control. We conducted a structured training course for educators, equipping them with knowledge and teaching methodologies to effectively integrate delayed gratification skills. Teachers gained experience using pre- and post-assessment tools to assess student progress. As a result, teachers report improvements in students' persistence, work ethic, and engagement with tasks requiring sustained effort. Students developed essential soft skills such as patience, self-discipline, and resilience, contributing to improved classroom behavior and academic achievement. Overall, the project aimed to create a foundation for long-term behavioral change and academic success among students, fostering a positive learning environment conducive to growth and development.
