Objectives

The overall objective of WEAVE was to contribute to increasing digital inclusion by promoting web accessibility. To achieve this, it set the following specific objectives: 1. Equip post-secondary VET providers with resources on accessible web design 2. Increase and encourage the inclusion of people with any kinds of disabilities online 3. Enrich the professional competences and the employment prospects of web developers 4. Increase the readiness of the stakeholders for the implementation of the European Accessibility Act (EAA)

Activities

The WEAVE project implemented several key activities to promote web accessibility and digital inclusion. The team conducted desk research, legislation research, and focus groups involving people with disabilities, their representative organizations, and public sector representatives. They also carried out a survey targeting public sector representatives to gather diverse insights. These activities culminated in the synthesis of the WEAVE Best Practices Report, which identified best practices in line with the European Accessibility Act. The project developed an innovative VET Web Accessibility Toolkit, which was translated into English, Greek, and Spanish to ensure wide accessibility. The toolkit provided valuable resources for VET educators and students, incorporating best practices identified during the research phase. Dissemination activities included a webinar attended by 26 participants, a workshop with 40 participants , and a hybrid multiplier event with 57 participants. Social media and other channels were used to further disseminate project results. These efforts ensured broad engagement, raised awareness, and equipped stakeholders with practical tools to improve web accessibility.

Impact

The WEAVE project achieved several concrete outputs and results: • Identified and analyzed at least nine best practices meeting European Accessibility Act functional performance criteria, documented in the WEAVE Best Practices Report, available in English, Greek, and Spanish. • Created an innovative VET Web Accessibility Toolkit, providing valuable resources for VET educators and students, available in English, Greek, and Spanish. • Trained 40 VET educators and students, enhancing their skills in accessible web design. • Informed 26 stakeholders about EU initiatives on web accessibility and the project's contributions through an online webinar. • Hosted a hybrid multiplier event engaging 57 participants, including web developers, educators, and representatives from both the public and private sectors. • Achieved over 13,800 impressions on social media, exceeding the target of 10,000, through extensive dissemination efforts. • Enhanced digital inclusion, improved web accessibility practices, and prepared stakeholders for future accessibility challenges.
