Today only a few pioneering courses exist that disseminate knowledge needed to protect orchards. This includes topics such as planning orchards, grafting, choosing the right variety for the right location, caring for young trees and pruning. This knowledge faces a tremendous challenge due to climate change (e.g. drought stress, new diseases). At the same time, orchards store carbon and are a source of local food. This means to protect orchards means to protect the climate as well. Consequently to fight climate change is a priority of this project. There is a demand for a revision of the training material developed for courses in the field of orchard maintenance. Improving the competencies of trainers was a priority of this project. The project aimed at improving the teaching about the topic of orchards and climate change. It has realized this goal through best practice exchange and exchange of research results among the project partners, an exchange of teaching methods and the development of new teaching material. Field trips and meetings in all participating countries showed how climate change is tackled in the maintenance of orchards. During the meetings, educators swapped knowledge through practical working together.
